The much-anticipated 2024 edition of the National Bible Quiz (NBQ) Championship has officially been launched! The preliminary stage balloting ceremony took place on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Timothy Generation Chapel of the Perez Chapel International in Dzorwulu, Accra. This year’s championship promises to be bigger and more exciting, with 54 churches from 11 universities set to participate in a thrilling competition that blends spiritual engagement with friendly rivalry.
A Record Number of Participants
Out of the 54 participating churches, 9 have been seeded directly into the quarterfinals, while the remaining 45 churches will battle it out in the one-eighth stage. The competing churches have been strategically placed into three pots—Pot A, B, and C—each containing 15 churches. From these pots, one church from each pot will be paired to form a contest, resulting in a total of 15 one-eighth stage contests.
Words of Encouragement and Acknowledgment
During the launch, Ps. Abraham Asiedu, the Team Lead of the National Bible Quiz Project, congratulated all the churches for their relentless efforts to qualify for this year’s national championship. He expressed confidence in the teams, urging them to give their best to clinch the prestigious trophy. Ps. Asiedu emphasized the importance of the launch as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate stakeholders who have supported the project.
Acknowledging the contributions of the main partners and sponsors, Ps. Asiedu extended gratitude to The Bible Society of Ghana, Sweet Muzic Pro Audio, IT Consortium, Ask TK Sounds, Visal Reinsurance Brokers, Nikao Fabrics, Belsmile, Soul Impact Family Production, University of Ghana Business School, Volta Hall, Fortune Ghana, and others. Special appreciation was given to PENT TV, the official TV partner, and Sweet Melodies 94.3FM, the official radio partner, for their unwavering support.
Inspiring Messages from Distinguished Speakers
The launch event featured impactful ministrations from Dave da Music Box, Aldersgate Voice of GHAMSU UG Local, and Adlaide Duah, setting a spiritually charged atmosphere. Very Rev. John Kwasi Addo Jnr, the General Secretary of The Bible Society of Ghana, delivered a profound message, emphasizing the necessity of reading and living according to the Bible. Quoting Psalm 119:97-99, he encouraged all to uphold Christian values without compromise, especially in these challenging times.
“We can talk about everybody compromising, but as for you, let’s stand for the LORD. Let’s be that remnant that will sustain the heritage that we have sustained from our mothers and fathers and make the LORD proud,” he urged.
Speaking on behalf of IT Consortium and the Chango Group Contribution and Crowdfunding Platform, Mr. Yussif Markstar highlighted the transformative impact of the National Bible Quiz on the youth. He underscored how the competition not only enhances biblical knowledge but also fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and integrity—values that benefit participants in their personal and professional lives.
Countdown to the One-Eighth Stage
The one-eighth stage of the competition will run from Monday, September 16, to Saturday, September 21, 2024. Each day will feature three contests, culminating in a final day where the highest-scoring losing teams will compete for the last three quarterfinal slots. The 15 contests will determine which teams will advance, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive quarterfinals.
Ps. Asiedu closed the event by encouraging all teams to bring their best to the competition and called on Christians nationwide to join the journey either in person or through various online platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and X @nbqghana. The championship will also be broadcast live on PENT TV and Sweet Melodies 94.3 FM.
