A call by the speaker of the Parliament of Ghana on the Joint Committee of Parliament on legal and constitutional issues, to come up with recommendations within one month on the possie regulations of churches has met stiff opposition from the country’s main Pentecostal and Charismatic body, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council.
The Council, one of the main leading bodies governing Christian bodies in the West African country of Ghana stated in the press statement which was released on the 31st of June 2019, said it found the call dangerous. The press statement also described the call as unfortunate because according to the press release, “who has the prerogative to decide a church is a one-man church”
The GPCC took the view that such matters should be left in the hands of ecumenical bodies because so they can deal with them. However, the GPCC approved the call for all churches to register with one ecumenical body or other. Issues affecting Christians according to the GPCC should not be left in the hands of Parliamentarians.
