Hebrews 11:39
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
In what is called the hall of faith in Hebrews 11, the Bible documents a catalogue of victories that people obtained under various circumstances. The list features great characters who have dominated many a sermon throughout the Church Age. These prevailers fall under two categories namely, “the obvious prevailers” and “another kind of prevailers”.
The obvious prevailers are those who obtained victories that could be clearly seen by everybody. The nature of the breakthroughs in this category is such that the natural mind can appreciate the victories. They escaped death, their needs were met and their enemies were destroyed (Hebrews 11:32-35).
Hebrews 11:35-38 include another kind of prevailers in the hall of faith. These “were tortured. They had “trial of cruel mockings and scourgings” and “bonds and imprisonment”. “They were stoned; they were sawn asunder, were tempted, and were slain with the sword”.
Hebrews 11:39 says, “AND THESE ALL, HAVING OBTAINED A GOOD REPORT THROUGH FAITH …”. Both the first and second category of prevailers obtained a good report because all their testimonies glorified God and became examples for others to follow and also prevail over their circumstances.
Don’t allow others to use their testimonies and stories of victory to deny you the joy of being a prevailer simply because your victory was not crafted like theirs (2 Corinthians 10:12). Believers do not only glorify God by how they live but also by how they die.
Prayer:
1. Pray for the grace and tenacity to prevail no matter the circumstances around you.
2. Pray also that you will receive a good report.
