The Shepherding Assignments: To Guide and To Lead – Dag Heward-Mills

-

1. A shepherd must lead his sheep by still waters.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he LEADETH ME BESIDE THE STILL WATERS. Psalms 23:2

2. A shepherd must lead his sheep to green pastures.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures…Psalms 23:2

3. A shepherd must guide his sheep through wilderness situations.

But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and GUIDED THEM IN THE WILDERNESS LIKE A FLOCK. And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased. Psalms 78:52-54

4. A shepherd must lead his people like a flock.

To lead the people like a flock speaks of learning the principles of leading large numbers of people with diverse opinions, backgrounds and beliefs. The art of shepherding is the art of leading people in spite of opposition from independent sheep, opinion leaders and rebellious people. It is also the art of leading people who are so many that you cannot talk to each one personally.

Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. Psalm 77:20
