The Shift (You Are Not Your Past)

-

“Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?
So they were offended at Him.” – Matthew 13:55 & 57a

Jesus had just preached a powerful message in his hometown Nazareth and the people were astonished. The wisdom, in-depth understanding and revelation on display did not match the story of his past.

The questions asked in the scripture above suggests the people were very familiar with him. He was from a poor family and raised in a poor town. There were no examples of greatness he could look up to; and yet his wisdom and miracles spread his fame afar. There had been a shift over his life.

When the shift occurs, your background becomes irrelevant. When God’s divine hand is involved, your past is not a determinant of your future.

There may be people who constantly use your past as a whip but hear Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

I want to remind you today, you are not your past! You may be the carpenter’s son but that is not the end of your story. You may be in Nazareth now but that is not your final destination.

Pray this:
Father Lord I thank you for all you have done in my life thus far. I pray that there shall be a shift over my atmosphere that will propel me to the next level. Bring me a change, so that my past becomes a testimony and the victory from my failings become a source of encouragement for those around me. I thank you in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
