This Week In Christian History: John Knox Dies

-

This week marks the anniversary of the death of John Knox, a minister who was a prominent leader in Scotland’s Protestant Reformation.

A noted preacher who was often experiencing persecution for his Protestant views, Knox was a key figure in shaping the rules and regulations of the Reformed Church in Scotland.

In 1559, Knox was elected minister at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, and served in that official position for 13 years.

Not long after preaching what became his last sermon on the 9th of November in 1572, Knox fell ill soon after and passed away.

“Certainly his conviction that the Reformation was God’s cause and must triumph, a conviction he had a remarkable power of impressing upon other minds, was the rock upon which the Reformed Church in Scotland was built,” stated Britannica.
