The Written Word

0

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. — Psalm 119:105 (AMPC)

The Bible is written as a personal letter to you from God. He speaks to you, meets your needs, and guides your steps through His written Word. He reveals truth, wisdom and teaches you how to live.

Without spending time in His Word, we can’t hear His voice clearly and accurately. Knowing the written Word protects us from deception—it’s our standard for truth.

Listening for God’s voice without being in His Word consistently opens you up to hearing voices that are not from God, which is why it’s so important to not only read His Word, but to study it.

There may be times when God speaks something to you that is outside a specific chapter and verse of the Bible, but it will always be in agreement with His Word.

Today, spend some time (even if it’s just a few minutes) reading a little of God’s personal letter to you, and ask Him to speak to your heart.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word, and for the peace and direction and provision I can find in it. Please reveal more and more truth to me as I spend time getting to know Your Word better. In Jesus’ Name, amen

His Indwelling Presence

0

. . . to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. — Ephesians 3:19

To appreciate art, one must either be born with an artistic sense or develop it by training. Only a relatively few people have an innate sense of color, form, and harmony.

To such, a love for art comes naturally. Without an artistic appreciation in one’s soul, visiting an art gallery can be a boring affair. Likewise, to appreciate good music one must have music “in him” or develop it.

Without a sense of music appreciation, it is possible to sleep through a symphony concert or a performance of the Metropolitan Opera. So it is with the things of God.

Talk about God can become dreary and lackluster if God isn’t in you. Church can become a drab thing and the Bible an irksome Book if the Holy Spirit does not illuminate your soul with His indwelling presence.

The wonderful thing about it all is that God has planned life so that if our hearts are dead to spiritual things, something can be done about it.

Prayer for the day: Lord God Almighty, may I daily reach out to You and be filled with the love of Christ.

President Trump Tells Governors: ‘Allow Churches And Places Of Worship To Open Right Now’

President Donald Trump has called for all churches and places of worship to open as all 50 states have begun easing COVID-19 restrictions.

“I call on all governors to allow churches and places of worship to open right now,” Trump said.

Trump deems church essential and threatens to override state governors if they keep them closed.

“Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential but have left out churches and other houses of worship,” Trump said. “It’s not right, and I am correcting the injustice.”

The president’s announcement came as new questions surfaced about hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug Trump touted as a possible ‘game-changer’ treatment for the COVID-19 virus.

A new study published on Friday by the medical journal The Lancet reveals it’s linked to a much higher risk of death in coronavirus patients.

To top that, the FDA has put the onus on healthcare professionals when it comes to hydroxychloroquine, warning against using it outside hospitals or clinical trials because it could cause heart problems.

Despite the warnings, Trump’s been taking hydroxychloroquine for nearly two weeks. He said White House physician Dr. Sean Coley determined the ‘potential benefit’ from the drug ‘outweighed the relative risk.’

Medical experts warn there could be a second wave of COVID 19 as states continue to ease social distancing and restrictions this holiday weekend.

“Our healthcare system is at a critical point right now,” said Montgomery, AL, Mayor Steven Reed. “Our healthcare system is at a critical point right now. Right now, if you’re from Montgomery and you need an ICU bed, you’re in trouble.”

“Whether it’s ember or a flame, we are going to put it out,” Trump said. “But we’re not closing our country.”

Contradicting the commander-in-chief, CDC Director Robert Redfield is not ruling out a second lockdown if the country faces a spike in new cases.

Religious leaders around the country applauded the president’s action on social media.

Jentezen Franklin, the senior pastor of  Free Chapel, wrote, Thank you Mr President! @realDonaldTrump  You always have the back of people of Faith!!! We appreciate this very much. We will use wisdom about reopening but it’s our call not the governments!!!!

‘Now with Jesus’: Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias dies at 74

Ravi Zacharias, the prominent Christian apologetics author and speaker, died Tuesday at the age of 74 following a battle with a rare form of cancer.

Zacharias’ daughter, Sarah Davis, posted a message on the website of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries on Tuesday, titled “Ravi Zacharias, Now With Jesus,” confirming that the apologist had passed away.

“It was his Savior, Jesus Christ, that my dad always wanted most to talk about. Even in his final days, until he lacked the energy and breath to speak, he turned every conversation to Jesus and what the Lord had done,” she wrote.

“He perpetually marveled that God took a seventeen-year-old skeptic, defeated in hopelessness and unbelief, and called him into a life of glorious hope and belief in the truth of Scripture—a message he would carry across the globe for 48 years.”

Davis noted that details about a public memorial for her father were pending, with a request added that those interested in sending flowers instead give to the work of RZIM.

“Today my beautiful father is more alive than he has ever been. We thank God for him and recommit our lives to sharing this truth with all who will hear, until He calls us to our eternal home,” Davis added.

How Tithers Provoke God’s Graciousness PT 2

God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us; Selah. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations. Psalm 67:1-2

When someone is gracious to you he shows you kindness because he loves you. A gracious person is kind, benevolent, generous, compassionate, lenient, understanding and merciful.

5. Your continued tithing gives God a good reason to continue to be gracious to you and bless you.

The tithe is used to spread the Gospel and therefore God is forced to be gracious to tithers. “God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations” Psalm 67:1-2 (NASB).

6. It is tithing (giving ten percent of your blessings) that enables the house of God to send people to preach the Gospel of salvation.

The Gospel of salvation is spread by people who are sent all over the world as evangelists and missionaries. This costs a lot of money and the only way people are sent is if the house of the Lord has enough supplies (meat).

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things Romans 10:13-15

7. The famous blessing spoken over the Philippian church is testimony to the effect of tithes and offerings.

The Philippian church sustained Paul on the mission field and yielded great blessings. Paul is a great example of someone who was supported by the tithes and offerings of the church. It was in response to the support that he received that he spoke the famous apostolic blessing, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the Gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:15-19 (NASB)

Why You Must Be Born Again

0

1. You must be born again because the first time you were born, you were born in sin.

Why do you have to write an exam again? Because it did not work out well the first time you did it.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

Behold, I WAS SHAPEN IN INIQUITY; AND IN SIN DID MY MOTHER CONCEIVE ME. Psalm 51:1-5

2. You must be born again because you are dead. Death has fallen on all men because of their sins.

The whole world lives in sin and wickedness. Americans, Iraqis, Ghanaians, Canadians and South Africans live in the fallen state of sinful man. Evil can be found in beautiful places like Switzerland. Amidst the beautiful mountains and lakes, can be found all the sins of mankind like prostitution, murder, drug addiction and suicide.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even WHEN WE WERE DEAD IN SINS, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:4-6

3. You must be born again because when Adam sinned he introduced death into the whole world.

Wherefore, as BY ONE MAN SIN ENTERED INTO THE WORLD, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 5:12

4. You must be born again because death has spread to the whole world since Adam introduced sin into the world.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and SO DEATH PASSED UPON ALL MEN, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12

5. You must be born again because although death was introduced by one man, Adam, the free gift of life has been re-introduced by one man, Jesus Christ.

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so BY THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ONE THE FREE GIFT CAME UPON ALL MEN unto justification of life.

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Romans 5:18-19

6. You must be born again by hearing and receiving the incorruptible Word of God.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Peter 1:23

7. You can be born again by believing in Jesus Christ’s death, the shedding of His blood, His burial and His resurrection.

But AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

How Tithers Provoke God’s Graciousness PT 1

0

God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us; Selah. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations. Psalm 67:1-2

When someone is gracious to you he shows you kindness because he loves you. A gracious person is kind, benevolent, generous, compassionate, lenient, understanding and merciful.

God’s graciousness to us is revealed when He supplies our needs and gives us the abundance of all things. When we have no lack and no needs, God is being gracious to us! The houses, cars, finances that God has bestowed on us are all signs of God’s graciousness!

Why is God so gracious to us? So that we can be a blessing to the nations of the world. God’s graciousness is shown to us for a purpose that we may spread His Gospel to the nations. The prayer for graciousness from God is based on our promise that we would use this graciousness to spread the Gospel to the nations.

Every time you pay your tithes, you invest in God’s purpose the salvation of the nations. Paying of your tithes gives God more reasons to continue to be gracious to you.

1. Tithing makes provision for the house of God.

The prophet Malachi asked for the tithes to be brought to the house of the Lord for one reason: that there may be meat (supplies, provision, materials, goods, food, equipment) in the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord exists for a purpose and every time you pay your tithes you finance that purpose.

2. The House of the Lord exists to spread the word of salvation to the ends of the world.

The purpose of the house of the Lord is summarized in a statement by Jesus Christ. He said, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). This is the whole purpose of Christ’s coming to the world.

3. God wants to spread the news of salvation to different parts of the world and He has promised to be gracious to His people if we will help fulfil this vision.

To be gracious to someone is to show charm, kindness and a warm generosity of spirit. God will show you kindness and generosity when you help to fulfil His vision. Graciousness speaks of the kindness and warm courtesy shown by a king to his subjects. God will extend warm courtesies to you as you take up His greatest task. Indeed a person who is gracious is disposed to bestow favours and God will bestow many favours on you when you help to spread the Gospel of salvation.

4. God’s graciousness is bestowed on His church so that we would make His salvation known to the ends of the world. Your wealth exists because of God’s graciousness and blessings. If God is not gracious to you, you would not have or own anything.

God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us. Selah. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations. Psalm 67:1-2

Ravi Zacharias Sent Home with Dire Prognosis

0

World-renowned Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias has received a dire prognosis after a short battle with an aggressive and rare form of cancer in his spine.

His daughter Sarah Davis, CEO of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM), offered a heart-breaking update on his condition – a malignant tumor of the sacrum called sarcoma which was discovered in March.

“Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for my dad and for my family in recent months as he has undergone back surgery and treatment for cancer. Truly, words fail to convey the depths of our gratitude for your many expressions of love,” Davis writes in a letter to RZIM staff.

“We have just learned that while the tumor in my dad’s sacrum has been responding to the chemotherapy, the area where the cancer metastasized has actually worsened. His oncologist informed us that this cancer is very rare in its aggression and that no options for further treatment remain. Medically speaking, they have done all they are able,” she explains.

The family is now returning to Atlanta after his latest medical visit to Houston. Davis indicates that his medical treatments are at an end, and the family will cherish whatever time they have left with this great leader of the Christian faith. “After many weeks of separation, our family is anxious to spend time together,” she says.

Zacharias, 73, founded his international apologetics ministry, RZIM, in 1984, and has been widely sought after for decades for his eloquent answers to life’s biggest questions. He’s been a prolific author, debater, and academic throughout his life.

“We are so grateful to God for His goodness and His love that we have seen evidenced in so many ways. The love and care that you have given to us is one of the most beautiful expressions of God’s kindness. We are deeply grateful for the care of the medical teams at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the friendship and love of those who served and cared so faithfully and came alongside in many generous and unexpected ways,” Davis writes.

“We know that God has purposed and numbered each of our days, and only He knows how many more Ravi will experience on this earth. One day, likely sooner than later, we will be serving without our beloved founder, though I know his love and legacy will convict and inspire us to service of his Lord even greater than we have seen before. While we are full of so many emotions, we are also at peace, resting in the truth that God knows all and sees all and is sovereign and good. I think of the great joy my dad will have and I am comforted.”

She concludes, “Thank you for taking this journey with us, and as always, for your faithful prayers. With much love and on behalf of Ravi, Margie, Naomi, and Nathan – Sarah Davis, CEO of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.”

Evangelist Franklin Graham posted his support on Facebook saying, “Will you join me in praying for Ravi Zacharias and his family as they have received difficult news about his cancer? …His life has impacted many around the world, and we lift him up in prayer.”

Quarantined Police Officer: ‘I Asked Siri, How Can I Get Saved?’

0

A police officer at home on quarantine took his spiritual questions to the internet and found answers that set his life on a new course.

David* has been a police officer for 20 years. Recently, he wasn’t feeling well and feared he may have contracted COVID-19.

Struggling with fear and anxiety, David came across a website operated by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s online ministry, Search for Jesus, where he clicked to chat with a volunteer.

A Simple Question

“I’m struggling with faith, and with everything going on … even more so,” David typed.

Gloria, his chat coach, asked him a simple question: “Where do you look for peace in uncertain times?”

David answered that he looked within himself.

“I can understand that,” Gloria said. “The catch with that, though, is that our inner selves can be really disturbed by what we see and hear. That can lead to anxiety, as you know.”

‘I’m Not Ready to Go Yet’

Gloria talked about how it’s possible to have peace with God through Jesus.

“I haven’t had a relationship with God in so long,” David said, explaining that he usually thought living a righteous life was enough to keep him in good standing with God. Then he started feeling sick and got tested for COVID-19. He was waiting for results and feeling anxious. Living a good life no longer seemed adequate.

“I’m not ready to go yet,” David typed. “I’m only 48. … I still feel I have things left to do.”

‘I’m So Lost’

Gloria reassured him that he could have peace in this life and the next and asked if he wanted to talk about how.

“Not if it’s a sales pitch,” David responded. But a minute later, the wall he had built began to come down.

“I’m so lost,” he said. “And very scared.”

“Those are important words: ‘I’m so lost,’” Gloria responded. “You have already taken the first step towards God. You know that you have a problem. It sounds like you have been figuring out that your way is not the best.”

Bad News … and Good News

Gloria told David that she had a pretty good idea of why he was so scared about catching COVID-19. Like so many people, he was afraid of death. She had good news about that, but first, she shared some key Bible verses to help David see where he stood with God. Being a good person wasn’t enough—for David or anyone.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)” Gloria typed.

“You are realizing the truth of God’s Word,” she continued, “that ‘the result of sin is death’ (Romans 6:23). That is why you are so scared.”

“Well thanks for pointing that out,” David responded, his sarcasm coming across, even through the screen. “Now I’m even more scared.”

“I’m laughing at your last comment. Please continue reading,” Gloria typed.

“That verse continues, ‘BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ The really, really good news is that God knows that you cannot reach Him through your own efforts. So He provided the way for you to do that. He loves you that much, David.”

When Gloria went on to share John 3:16, David said the verse was familiar; he had seen it on signs people held at football games. Now the words were personal:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

“God sent his own son, Jesus, to earth,” Gloria shared. “Jesus lived a life without sin but died a terrible death. He took all of our sins upon himself, all of our punishment upon himself.”

“But what am I supposed to do?” David asked.

“Believe,” Gloria typed. “I can’t give you a sales pitch on that. It has to come from your heart.”

“Now I’m laughing,” David said.

I Asked Siri, ‘How Can I Get Saved?’

“Do you wanna know how I found your webpage?” David asked a couple of minutes later. “I went into Google, and I asked Siri, ‘How can I get saved?’ And your page popped up.”

He said he had prayed the prayer he found on the site, asking Jesus to be his Savior.

Gloria praised God for leading David to salvation. She also made sure David understood that the power to have peace with God doesn’t come from the words in the prayer but from faith in Christ.

“The words of the prayer are not magical,” Gloria said. “The important thing is the attitude of your heart.”

She encouraged David to take the next step in his new relationship with God by signing up for the free Know Jesus discipleship course online.

As David began a two-week quarantine, God had given him a gift he hadn’t been looking for—the gift of time. The Lord had once again used a temporary crisis to lead one of His children to eternal life. In this time of uncertainty, it’s one more reason to believe God’s Word is always true.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Franklin Graham Honors His Mother, Ruth Bell Graham

0

This is the time of year we celebrate mothers in every stage of life. Whether you’re a new mom or a seasoned one, whether you’re enjoying every minute of it or struggling day to day, whether you’re a biological mom or mother figure in someone’s life, God placed you in the lives of your children for a reason. Thank you for taking on that role.

Franklin Graham shared this about his own mother on Facebook:

In some ways, it’s hard to believe that my mother, Ruth Bell Graham, has been in Heaven for nearly 13 years now. I think of her often, but even more around Mother’s Day and her birthday in June.

I told someone this week that she was “crazy fun” and that’s the truth. She had a great sense of humor and was quite a prankster. At the same time, she didn’t put up with disrespect or disobedience, she was a disciplinarian—and believe me, I needed it!

I thank God for a mother who loved Him with all of her heart. She set a great example for us children by studying His Word and she would memorize large portions of it. You could never “win” an argument with her on theological issues, because she knew God’s Word and had it in her heart.
