Tobymac, Wife Speak Out After Son’s Death

0
TobyMac’s 21-year-old son, Truett Foster Mckeehan, died suddenly at his home Wednesday and the Grammy Award-winning artist shared a tribute to his eldest child and a declaration of faith despite the tragedy.

“Truett Foster Mckeehan had joy that took the room when he entered. He was a magnetic son and brother and friend. If you met him, you knew him, you remembered him. His smile, his laugh, the encouragement he offered with words or even without. He had an untamable grand personality and dreams to match. And he hated being put in a box,” the grieving father wrote on Instagram Thursday.

TobyMac said his son was “a true artist.” During the past few years, McKeehan released songs and videos online under various stage names, such as Shiloh, truDog and TRU. McKeehan was not a Christian artist but he did collaborate with his father on several tracks throughout the years.

“Truett always had a soft spot for God. The Bible moved him. His heart was warm to the things of his King. He was by no means a cookie-cutter Christian but give me a believer who fights to keep believing. Give me a broken man who recognizes his need for a Savior every time. That’s who Truett was and how he should be remembered,” TobyMac continued in his post.

The young performer played his first live show at the Factory in Franklin, Tennessee, just a week ago. TobyMac said that was the last time he saw his son because he left the next day to go on tour.

“As I stood in the audience and watched my son bring joy to a room, I was as proud as a ‘pop’ (as Tru called me) could be. It was the culminating moment of a dream that he had since he was 12. It couldn’t have been sweeter,” the “I Just Need You” singer said. “Our music, and what we say lyrically couldn’t be more different, but the outcome was much the same … offering a room full of people a few minutes of joy in a crazy world.”

The 55-year-old artist also shared his last text exchange with McKeehan before declaring what he and his wife, Amanda Levy McKeehan, believe about God despite the tragedy.

“My wife and I would want the world to know this: We don’t follow God because we have some sort of under-the-table deal with Him, like, we’ll follow you if you bless us. We follow God because we love Him. It’s our honor. He is the God of the hills and the valleys. And He is beautiful above all things,” TobyMac testified.

Wait On The Lord (Wait Patiently)

0
Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day. The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

2 PETER 3:8-9 (AMP)

Most of the time, we pray to God and expect answers immediately, refusing to wait for God’s perfect timing. This impatience has caused a lot of people to miss God’s visitation. Many Christians go around looking for instant miracles and fast solutions to their problems, without waiting patiently on the Lord for those miracles.

We forget that the Bible is filled with men and women such as Abraham, Job, Hannah, Sarah, etc, who waited on God in spite of their problems and challenges. They held on to their faith and belief in God and in the end, God honoured them. Not only that, they are also listed in the Bible’s hallmark of Faith in Hebrews 11.

The scripture above says that the Lord does not delay as though He were unable to act. The fact that your miracle has seemingly delayed does not mean that the Lord is slow to act. Learning to wait patiently even when it seems like God has forgotten about you is an important part of your walk and relationship with God. As you wait, continue to serve Him with your body, soul and mind, continue to praise and worship Him, continue to hold on to His Word and promises and I can guarantee you, the Lord will cause you to smile.

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Psalms 27:14 (NLT)

Pray with me:

Dear Lord, I thank You for my life and how far you’ve brought me. Father teach me to patiently wait on You and even as I wait grant me peace of mind and peace in my heart, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Tourists who display a Bible or take more than one into the country could face possible arrest in Saudi Arabia, according to the Barnabus Fund.

“The new regulations for tourists state that a Bible may be brought into the country provided it is for personal use only,” the statement said. “Bibles must not be displayed in public and anyone found bringing a large number of Bibles will face ‘severe penalties.’”

Saudi Arabia is a strict Islamist country that forbids anyone from converting to Christianity. Citizens discovered as Christians may face execution by the state for apostasy. Christians from other nations who live in the country worship privately at home at risk of being arrested or deported if caught.

Recently, Saudi Arabia launched a new visa to encourage tourism in the country and avoid heavy dependence on the oil industry, according to the Christian Post. Women who travel to the country do not have to adhere to the country’s strict dress code, but they are expected to dress modestly.

“We have a culture. We believe our friends and our guests will respect the culture, but definitely, it is modest and it will be very clear,” said Saudi Tourism Minister Ahmad al-Khateeb to the BBC.

Visas were previously only given to those on business, seeking religious pilgrimage or expatriate workers. Women are also allowed to travel to the country unaccompanied with a man.

Chicago Churches Erase Over $5 Million In Medical Debt For Nearly 6,000 Illinois Families

0
United Church of Christ churches in Chicago have joined together to eliminate over $5.3 million in medical debt impacting nearly 6,000 Illinois families. Meanwhile, the UCC national church body has dedicated this year’s Giving Tuesday to the cause of erasing medical debt nationwide.

Local church leaders affiliated with the 5,000-church mainline Protestant denomination announced Sunday that they had raised over $38,000 that was used to purchase medical debt plaguing 5,888 families.

As medical debt is the most common cause of bankruptcy in the United States, the New York-based nonprofit RIP Medical Debt works with organizations and donors to purchase unpaid debt from medical institutions incurred by struggling families for just pennies on the dollar.

Instead of that debt being sold off to third-party collection companies looking to make a profit, the debt is purchased by RIP Medical Debt and the individual or family is freed from the financial burden with no strings attached.

Speaking at a news conference Sunday afternoon at Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street, the church’s pastor, Ottis Moss, told churchgoers that the nearly 6,000 families will receive an anonymous letter before Thanksgiving informing them that their debt has been forgiven.

“RIP Medical Debt was able to work with us so that we were able to target certain zip codes to ensure that that poorest of the poor would benefit from this,” Moss explained. “I am happy to say that communities in Chicago that received the largest portion of debt relief [are] Englewood, Auburn Gresham, Washington Heights, Roslyn, and West Pullman.”

“But people throughout Cook County will have their debt relieved,” Moss continued. “They will receive a very special card before Thanksgiving that is completely anonymous. They don’t know that this is coming. The card will simply say: ‘Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We want you to know that all your debts have been forgiven.’”

China Destroys 3,000-Seat Church, Detains Pastors

0

The People’s Republic of China destroyed a church that reportedly could seat 3,000 people and detained its pastors, according to a human rights organization.

China Aid, an international nonprofit Christian human rights group based in Texas, reported the incident in a statement released Saturday. According to the group, Chinese authorities provided no legal papers to justify the demolition.

The church was located in Funan, Anhui province. Its pastors, Geng Yimin and Sun Yongyao, were detained under suspicion of “gathering a crowd to disturb social order.”

China Aid President Bob Fu said in a statement that the incident was “yet another clear example showing the escalation of religious persecution today by the Chinese Communist regime.”

“The total disregard of religious freedom’s protection as enshrined in the Communist Party’s own Constitution tells the whole world President Xi is determined to continue his war against the peaceful Christian faithful. This campaign will surely fail in the end,” he continued.

While China’s persecution of religious groups has existed for many years, recently under President Xi Jinping a wave of crackdowns on religious practices in China has taken place.

The Communist government has destroyed or damaged several churches, reflecting concerns about the increasing Christian population of the country.

In the summer, True Jesus Church in Henan province was razed to the ground, according to persecution watchdog Bitter Winter. Police officers reportedly dragged out all believers from the church before they demolished the property.

Bitter Winter also reported last month that the Ten Commandments have been removed from nearly every Three-Self church and meeting venue in a county of Luoyang city and replaced with the President Xi Jinping’s quotes as part of the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to “sinicize” Christianity.

Tobymac’s 21-Year-Old Son Truett Dies At Home; Fans Share Prayers For Family

0
TobyMac’s eldest son, Truett Foster McKeehan, also known by his stage names Shiloh, truDog and TRU, died at his home this week, a representative has confirmed.

“Truett did pass away at home in the Nashville area sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning,” the representative said in a statement to USA Today Thursday morning about the 21-year-old aspiring rapper’s sudden death.

According to the Davidson County Medical Examiner’s office, McKeehan died on Wednesday.

TobyMac left Canada, where he was scheduled to be on tour for a week, to be home with his wife and four other children in Franklin, Tennessee.

“Cause of death has not been determined. Toby was traveling back from Canada and did not get home to be with his family until after midnight last night so there is no statement. We just ask that everyone please be respectful of their privacy during this time and allow them to grieve their loss,” the representative added.

During the past few years, McKeehan released songs and videos online under his various stage names. He performed his first live show just a week ago to rave reviews.

McKeehan’s friends and supporters took to Instagram with memorial messages Wednesday afternoon for TobyMac and his family.

“My heart is broken for the family and friends processing this tragic loss. Prayers for the pain to ease and for Hope to prevail through the darkness. Take care of each other!” one wrote.

Another message read, “Praying for overwhelming peace for your family as they now must find a way to go on living without you.”

McKeehan was not a Christian artist but he did collaborate with his father on several tracks throughout the years.

TobyMac even penned a song titled “Scars,” describing how his relationship with his eldest son changed after the young artist left home.
