The Joshua Generation – Pt 1

0

God has always looked for people who will step out in faith for Him! The Old Testament contains stories of some of the greatest heroes of the faith, and there is much we can learn from them. Joshua, who came out of Egypt as a young child, is one of them.

As great as Moses was in leading the children of Israel out of Egypt, he never entered the Promised Land alive. Joshua and his generation did.

What was the difference? And what can we learn from this powerful legacy?

The story of Joshua and God’s call on his life provides us with a pattern for victorious, supernatural living even today.

I would add, “God’s timing means everything!” And in the spiritual realm, timing is crucial. God’s perfect will for you and me is directly related to His perfect timing!

In this teaching I want to share with you how the Joshua Generation fulfilled God’s purposes and entered the Promised Land, but first, we must understand the workings of God with previous generations:

  • In Genesis, God chose His people.
  • In Exodus, God redeemed His people.
  • In Leviticus, God called people to lead His people.
  • In Numbers, God spoke to His people.
  • In Deuteronomy, God commanded His people.
  • In Joshua, God conquers through His followers.

God’s Commission to Joshua

The transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua was marked by this powerful scene:

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 34:1-5 NKJV)

Joshua, had already been anointed as the next leader:

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.” (Joshua 1:1-3)

The first words God spoke to Joshua was, “Now therefore, arise…”

This is the word God is speaking to each of us today. He has chosen us, redeemed us, given us leadership, spoken to us, commanded and commissioned us, and now He is saying “Arise!” He cannot conquer unless we obey Him and arise!

16 Souls Won For Christ On Gospel Sunday

0

Sixteen people surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 10, 2019, during a Gospel Sunday service held by the Born Again Worship Centre in the Achimota Area of The Church of Pentecost to climax this year’s McKeown Missions Week.

The General Secretary of the Church, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Rose Dansoa Kumi-Larbi, joined members of worship centre to observe the annual celebration which coincided with the third Gospel Sunday service of the year.

Speaking on the topic: “Jesus Christ; the Destiny Changer” with Psalm 30:5, 11 and Luke 7 as scripture references, Apostle Kumi-Larbi stated that only Jesus Christ has the transforming grace for every soul, regardless of one’s state of being.

He, therefore, advised the congregants not to go to any other spiritual being for assistance other than Jesus Christ.

The General Secretary noted that sin is the root cause of all the ills and troubles that has plagued the human race. He, however, said that Jesus Christ came down to earth to stand in the gap and atone for the sins of all humankind. As a result of this, anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is guaranteed everlasting life.

He further said that Satan through deception and sin created enmity between God and humans and that is the cause of all the problems of the world.

“However, when you encounter Jesus Christ, He gives you life, joy and He rescues you from darkness into His glorious light,” he said.

The General Secretary concluded his sermon by encouraging the members to try Jesus Christ and have a divine encounter with Him.

To climax the event, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi dedicated the newly-constructed baptistery of Born Again Worship Centre.

Together with the Resident Minister, Pastor Isaac Annor, the General Secretary baptized 24 people in the new baptistery, including the 16 souls won.

Fierceness And Persistence; The Story Of The Lion

1

The Lion is a fearless animal. He is the King of the jungle. Runs from no one and is respected as such. His roar sends shivers down the spine of all who hear it both man and animals alive. The strength of the lion is not in doubt even though it knows when to back down.

Success for lions is when they achieve the task at all costs. To get food or even lead a pride of lions, means a lion must be prepared to fight, sometimes to death.

Jesus, was prepared to fight till death to gain freedom for believers and he is rightfully called the lion of the tribe of Judah.

Today, how many followers of this Jesus can be described as lions?

How many pastors will travel far to a different country, fight the demonic power and overcome them establish a mission for Jesus?

How many people who carry the title Evangelists will roam the plains and Savannahs of Africa defying all traditional and wicked principalities and politicians to win souls for Jesus.

How many true prophets can wear camels clothing and stay in the wilderness eating honey and locust so as to speak the truth and point the way of life to nations or defy politicians and call them their correct description: corrupt.

Are they not calling themselves prophets of the nations?

How about the Apostles? Can they fearlessly send their young sons away from the safety and comfort of the pride (the home church)? to far countries to fight, take over and overcome to build a mission? Why do believers sing about the Lion of Judah who gave His life for them when they themselves are no lions? Maybe the church today is full of domesticated cats who whimper and purr looking anxiously towards their owners to give them food.

But wait! When I look on the African horizon, I can see a lion or traces….in Nigeria holding crusades even though not an African, this lion called Reinhard Bonnke was not deterred of skin colour or language barrier. Ploughed Nigeria for souls. Now he is the old lion. Is there not a younger lion rising up to fight to evangelize Africa and the world?

I am told of a man of mixed race and descent who has risen to roar once again on the evangelistic plain, to defy all the powers and challenges that present itself, to overcome all the roadless and mapless plains of Africa to take the gospel of Jesus to every corner.

A medical doctor by profession and a founder of large denominations called the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches.

Riding on with the trucks of the Healing Jesus Crusade, this lone lion roared in Ghana, West Africa, South Africa and now Eastern Africa, the region of the lions.

As i put my pen to this article, my prayer is for God to raise more lions like Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills to roam not just Africa with trucks holding crusades, defying and overcoming all principalities and powers with roars that send shivers down the spines of corrupt and wicked leaders on the continent; but also the rest of this dying world.

The church is indeed in dire need of more lions.

Saviour! Do Not Pass Me By! – Pt 1

CHAPTER 1

The heat of the sun pressed down on Aliya today as she walked back from school. There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky over Zamara Town to bring her some reprieve. God must be angry today, she thought, that’s why He’s turned up the heat! A bit of hell for all sinners, of which she was one.

She was late getting home today, and it was all Senior James’ fault. She was 12 years old, and he was a senior prefect in Zamara Primary & High School; always nicely dressed, wearing his spectacles. The first time he came into her classroom and asked them all to stand up because they were disturbing, she was smitten. He must have noticed her too because he came to her desk and asked her name. She blubbered her name, and he gave her a wry smile as he asked, “How old are you?” “I’m 12 years old please.” She responded.

He then cast his eye over her in such a way that she felt undressed in front of her classmates. She instinctively folded her arms, almost as if to cover her budding breasts and shield them from his ravenous scrutiny. “See me after school”, he announced with the authority of a teacher, and proceeded to slowly walk out of the class. She realized her palms were sweating, so she sat down and wiped them on her skirt, feeling the eyes of her classmates on her. What was going to happen now? She thought…

After school, she lingered, not sure whether to go and see him or not. She didn’t have to stress: he came looking for her! Almost as if he knew what was going through her mind, he proceeded to give her assurances that everything was ok so she should relax and not be afraid, he only wanted to help her with her homework. He made her sit with him at the back of the class and produce the homework.

All her friends had gone home, and the school was emptying fast. And still they sat, partly doing the homework, partly answering his searching questions. It was a math homework, so what had science and the human body got to do with anything? And what were all these strange feelings she was having, sitting so close to him, his voice tickling the inside of her ears, his breath making her heart beat so fast?

She savored the attention James was giving her, but somewhere deep inside, warning bells were ringing. “RAN! RAN MY CHILD!”, a Voice within her screamed. She attempted to get up but James placed his hand firmly on her thigh and said, “Don’t be afraid, I won’t do anything bad to you. I like you, and I just want to get to know you. Relax, let’s talk”. His smile was inviting, his voice luring. “NO! NO MY CHILD!”, the Voice within screamed. She knew the right thing to do now was to shove his dirty hands off and ran for dear life! But somehow she couldn’t resist him, he was so insistent!

She wanted to scream, but instead she whimpered “No James, please…” He turned her to face him, took her hand in both his, looked into her eyes and said condescendingly, “Listen, Aliya. I just need a friend. If you take care of me, I will take care of you. There are many bad boys out there who will take advantage of you because you are beautiful. But I won’t. I promise. So what do you say, huh?”. He touched her cheek gently and lifted her head to look at him. Before she could respond, he planted a kiss on her lips. She melted. “DON’T! DON’T MY CHILD!!”, but it was too late. She had no more will-power. She should have heeded the first warning. As his hand slid up her skirt like a snake, she thought to herself, “If only my pastor could see me now, what a shock!”.

One thing led to another, and in an instant and with a searing pain, her innocence was taken away from her. James seemed to know what to do. He helped her clean up nicely, gave her a tablet to swallow “to kill any viruses”, and assured her not to worry and that it would get better next time. It occurred to her then that perhaps she wasn’t the only one in the school who had fallen victim to James’ smooth talk…

As she walked home that afternoon, she felt dirty and ashamed. No one saw them but inside her she sensed Someone had seen her. There were no more warning voices, just a deep sense of shame. It was as if the Voice had died in her.

She took a shower as soon as she got home, but no matter how hard she scrubbed, she couldn’t feel clean. “What have I done?”, she asked herself, over and over again. A spirit of fear and depression descended on her. No one must know, not her father, mother, or siblings must know. At 12 years old, Aliya felt the burden of sin and guilt weighing heavily on her shoulders. “What can wash away my sin?”.

James didn’t give up. Day after day he would find her after school, and “help” her. He would often show her pictures and videos on his phone, to “educate” her on the art of sexual pleasure, with practical lessons following. At first Aliya was repulsed, but soon enough she got used to them, doing her best to please and impress James.

Then came the nightmares. At night, persons without bodies would come to her, in a dream or in reality she wasn’t sure. But after such encounters, she would wake up in the morning feeling defiled and in a bad mood. It got so bad that Aliya’s mother, Rebecca, recently complained to their pastor that Aliya had changed suddenly and had become stubborn and disrespectful. Her pastor has advised that it was due to the onset of teenage hormones.

Aliyah wondered why her mother wouldn’t just talk to her, instead of shout at her. She felt so burdened, crying out for someone to save her from sinking, but everyone was busy pointing fingers at her. How come no one could see her pain and shame? Had she now become so good at covering up, hiding and pretending that she had become one with the trees? How can everyone pass her by and not even notice her, when she was screaming so loud inside?

Six months had now passed. How can sin mature in so short a time? No one needed to tell her she had changed, and at such an early age. She had been fathered into sin by James. All Aliya wanted was love and attention. If only she could be loved without strings…

Today as she walked home in the seething sun, she was convinced God did not love her. If truly there was such a place as hell, she was definitely bound for it. Maybe it would be a good idea to just end it all and head there. What was the point of living and daily feeling sick with sin and guilt anyway?

Avoiding A Bad Marriage – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

0

After salvation, the most important choice you will need to make is who to marry. This choice is so important that if you miss it, you will suffer for long, if you get it right then you will enjoy forever.

A bad marriage can affect every other area of your life. This subject is so important, so many married people are hoping to be single again so as to make the right choice.

If you are single please don’t just be in a hurry to get married, you have the best opportunity to prepare for it. For two people to come together to live in peace and harmony, they must agree spiritually, mentally and physically.

Just like an elephant cannot marry an ant so also a believer cannot marry an unbeliever. If an elephant marries an ant how would they live, if a goat marries a fish where would they meet?

You must look for a Godly man or a Godly woman to marry, nothing can beat this.

The devil’s primary target is the family. He knows that everyone belongs to a family and if he can make two wrong people meet then he has succeeded affecting the community and nations negatively.

Ignore your age and the pressure for a moment, the pressure in a wrong marriage is far worse. God has somebody for you but you must set your priorities right.

What do you need in a woman? What do you need in a man? Marriage is not about what you want, it is about who you need, and that will make you better while you make him better. It is about destiny. That is why you must know your purpose before you get married. Genesis 2:18.

You must pray before you choose. God knows the best person for you, it is only wise to seek His will. It is very easy to know God’s will when sex is not involved. The moment sex is involved and you want to know His will then He will blank you out.

Why? Because you have broken His first Law of NO SEX before marriage.

If you have had sex in the past then you need to repent totally and stay away from each other for some time then you can seek the face of God. Your marriage will not be hell on earth. Your marriage will be honourable in the name of Jesus Christ.

Don’t marry for sex, don’t marry because you are of age, don’t marry because you are getting old, don’t marry because you are lonely, don’t marry because you need someone to support you financially, don’t marry because you mistakenly got pregnant, don’t marry because you don’t want to lose the person, don’t marry because of family pressures, don’t marry because you like the idea of marriage and admire every wedding gown you see, don’t marry because all your friends are getting married but get married because you want to fulfill destiny.

Get married because you want to be a help mate.

As a man, get married because you want to fulfill your purpose.

God will help you in choosing, please let His will be done in your Life.

Amen!

Amasu Central Church Building Dedicated

0

The Amasu District Central Assembly Church building in the Berekum Area of The Church of Pentecost has been dedicated to the glory of God. The facility which cost GH₵ 76,735.00 to construct was dedicated on Friday, March 1, 2019.

The building was constructed some years back but had to be restructured and re-roofed to make it conducive for a place of worship.

Speaking at the programme, Pastor Samuel Ofori Gyimah of Drobo Krupiase District, in a message titled, “I am a Dedicated Temple of God” (Leviticus 6:8-13; 9:24; 2 Corinthians 7:1-2), said when the Priests offered the pleasing sacrifice to God, fire fell from heaven and consumed it.

He said the Priests were charged to keep the fire on the altar burning always. In like manner, he indicated, after King Solomon had prayed over the Temple he built, fire fell from heaven and consumed the offering. He however noted that, these Tabernacles/Temples were built with human hands.

Dedicating the building, Apostle Anthony Kingsley Miah (Berekum Area Head) expressed his appreciation to the District Minister, Pastor Ernest Agyei and his wife for their immense contribution towards the project.

He admonished the members to take good care of the building. He also prayed that the place becomes a solution centre where every need will be met.
