What A Beautiful Name – Song Story

0

What hides in the name of Jesus?

The name of Jesus encompasses more than we can hope or imagine—more beauty, more wonder, more power.

Most of the song “What A Beautiful Name” was penned in a glorified cubicle in the suburbs of Sydney over a few days in December 2015. From there we spent months crafting the lyrics to riff on our core scriptures — Hebrews 1:1-4 and Colossians 1:15-20, 26-27 — yet be simple enough to make sense on a first reading. Hebrews 1:1-4 expresses with clarity and conciseness the supremacy of Jesus Christ — the radiance of God’s glory, the exact expression of His being, the creative conduit of His power. Jesus is God’s Word: powerful, authoritative and utterly supreme. He is the wonder of salvation, who reconciled us to God.

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (Hebrews 1:1-2, NIV)

To know God and to worship Him (“to enjoy Him forever”) is the most fundamental reason for our existence. As Jesus reveals the great mysteries of God, we come to know more of who God is, glimpsing new facets of His beauty, wonder and power.

Beauty” evokes the tenderness of His love and the sweetness of His presence. “Wonder” speaks to our gratitude for salvation, awe at the lengths of His sacrifice. “Power” affirms His supremacy and Sovereignty—an exhortation to remember our access to the power of God in every situation, as we call upon and declare the Name of Jesus.

What a beautiful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Jesus has the Name above all others. Anything that we can name – from our greatest triumphs to our greatest challenges—comes under the authority of His Name. This song confesses that no greater beauty or source of wonder exists outside of Jesus, “the radiance of God’s glory” (Hebrews 1:3). The song is also a statement that Jesus has no rival or equal. His power is unmatched and absolute.

Perhaps some of us understand God loves us through the death and resurrection of Jesus, but haven’t grasped His power, ability and will to move strongly in our present circumstances. Or perhaps, we understand God as the supreme, omnipotent Deity He is, but have never known Him close and tender, as a friend acquainted with the depths of our humanity, knowing our flaws cannot perturb His love. Our prayer for this song is that we can all enter into a deeper, more lateral, revelation of the person of Jesus Christ—the epitome of beauty.

The Only Man-Made Thing In Heaven – Reinhard Bonnke

0
In Exodus 21:5,6, we read of yet another love law. If a bond servant married a wife, he could not legally take her away with him after he had served his contract with his master. He could keep his wife only if he stayed with his master in permanent servitude.

Then, if he agreed, his ear would be pierced with a tool fastening him to the wood of the doorway. The scar would be always there, in the ear and in the door, and it would tell everybody, “I love my wife and have given myself FOR her, so I can give myself TO her.”

That is the parable of the love affair of God with humankind. Jesus gave Himself at the cross FOR US so that He could give Himself TO US.

The stab-marks are on His hands and feet for time and eternity – the only man-made thing in heaven. That is what everything is about.

God is love. That is why we were born, to be loved and love. To know the love of all loves is the secret of all secrets.

Know that, and you possess the answer to the meaning of life.

A loveless Gospel is a contradiction: a sea without water, sun without light, honey without sweetness and bread without substance.

The Gospel is nothing other than love. Please let me know if you enjoy this wonderful love of Jesus today.

God bless you.

Churches Hold Thanksgiving Day Worship Services To Reflect On God’s Providence

0

For most Americans, celebrating Thanksgiving involves big dinners, watching football on TV, and traveling hours to visit family. But many Americans observe the holiday by attending worship services. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, a congregation in Richmond, Virginia, with 4,300 members, has held worship services on the national holiday since the 1950s.

Sarah Bartenstein, director of communications for St. Stephen’s Episcopal, explained that their Thanksgiving Day service is “extremely popular.”

“On a day set aside for gratitude, providing a way for people to express that gratitude corporately in their church seems especially appropriate,” said Bartenstein.

The Rev. Gary D. Jones, rector at St. Stephen’s Episcopal, who preached at the service on Thursday, believes everyone has a reason to be thankful.

“No one would have blamed the colonists in Virginia (Berkeley Plantation, 1619) or Massachusetts (Plymouth, 1621) for setting aside a day of mourning, instead of a day of Thanksgiving, given the grievous losses every family among them had sustained in their first year in the new world,” he said.

“But in spite of their hardships and grief, they chose to commemorate their time in the new world with a day of Thanksgiving. Likewise, President Lincoln’s declaration of a national day of Thanksgiving happened in the midst of a devastating Civil War. There is something in the human spirit that seeks, and can eventually find, reasons to be thankful, even in the worst possible times.”

Jones believes that there are many things people should be thankful for, including “the opportunity to forgive,” “the possibility of love,” and “the gift of life itself.”

Another congregation that held worship on the holiday is the Parish Church of St. Helena, an Anglican congregation of about 1,400 members based in Beaufort, South Carolina.

The Rev. Shay Gaillard, rector at St. Helena, told CP that his church has held Thanksgiving services throughout its history, as there has “always been a close tie between the life of our nation and the life of the church.”

“Thanksgiving prayers and Bible readings are enshrined in our Book of Common Prayer,” explained Gaillard.

“Of course, the main reason we hold Thanksgiving services is that we are overwhelmingly grateful for the providence of our God in all things.”

“The heart of Thanksgiving in the Christian tradition is the providence of God. God has created all things and bestows all that we have for our good. His greatest provision is in giving his Son Jesus Christ for the sins of the world.  That is the heart of our message to a hurting world,” Gaillard said.

Bulgarian Parliament Revises Proposed Rules That Could Have Forced Churches To Close

0

The Bulgarian parliament is revising controversial draft amendments to a national religion law that critics say would have asserted state control over churches and ministries and could have resulted in the closure of evangelical Christian schools and congregations.

Following protests last week from faith groups, parties in Bulgaria’s Parliament are working to revise amendments that were proposed to the Balkan nation’s Religious Denomination Act, according to the Sofia Globe.

More than 2,000 Christians met to pray and protest in Sofia on 11th November

The proposed law would have required Bulgarian citizens who want permission to preach to complete their theological education in Bulgaria or at a foreign school approved by the Bulgarian government.

The proposal would have also made it so only Eastern Orthodox and Muslim institutions recognized by the government would be able to train clergy and run faith-based schools in the country.

The law would have banned religious activities from taking place outside of buildings designated for religious activity and would have made it so only religious groups with 300 people or more would be granted legal status.

Additionally, the amendments would have required foreigners looking to preach to do so in the presence of a Bulgarian-ordained minister. As well, foreign donations to churches would have needed government approval.

The proposed draft amendments, which passed on first reading in October, received immense backlash from many Christians across denominational lines who believe that the amendments threaten the freedom of local churches and the independent nature of the training of church leaders.

“In the context of democratic Europe, based on Christian values, faith is a sacred right that cannot be disputed.

Critics feared that the law would force churches and institutions to “close or face unbearable and discriminatory burdens.”

Thousands of Christians took to the streets in cities across the country to protest the law last week.

“We will continue the protests and prayer meetings in Bulgaria until the suggested changes to religious laws are completely withdrawn or until we see realistic proposals which guard religious freedoms and the right to a belief of everyone in Bulgaria.” the Rev. Teodor Oprenov, pastor at First Baptist Church in the nation’s capital of Sofia, told the Transform Europe Network.

Following the large protest by thousands of believers on Sunday 11th November, a further public protest took place, despite the cold wind and rain,  on Sunday 18th November and a special National Service of Prayer is being called for Sunday 25th November.

Rev. Rumen Bordzhiev, President of the Evangelical Alliance in Bulgaria: “In the context of democratic Europe, based on Christian values, faith is a sacred right that cannot be disputed. No true believers are ever a threat to national security. We love Bulgaria and our people, we believe in God, and we will continue with all legitimate means to uphold the right of religion guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Shiloh 2018

0

Shiloh 2018 is a mountain of divine encounter and the annual spiritual gathering of members of the Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel) at the church headquarters, Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Nigeria. Shiloh 2018 is the 19th edition of the annual Shiloh event of the LFC worldwide.

Shiloh, according to the president of the commission, Bishop David Oyedepo: While waiting on the Lord back in 1998 and inquiring about God’s master plan for Canaanland, among other things, God said, He would have us gather annually at Shiloh and that as we do, He will subdue the land before us by granting speedy delivery of our enviable inheritance in Christ.

Shiloh 2017

As it is written; “And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them. And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance. And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?” – Joshua 18:1-3

The theme of Shiloh 2018 according to Bishop Oyedepo is “Dominion”

The Shiloh 2018 event is expected to end with Shiloh 2018 Impartation Service on Saturday, 8th December, 2018 while annual Shiloh Thanksgiving service holds the next Sunday, 9th December,2018.

1.2 Billion Copies Of Rhapsody Of Realities Circulated In 2018

0

17-year achievement realized in one year as partners distributed 1.2 billion copies of Rhapsody of Realities.

At the beginning of ‘the Year of the Supernatural’, along with the prophetic word for the year, Pastor Chris declared through the Spirit that it would be 10 years in 1. Emphasizing God’s power to do exceedingly abundantly above all expectations, 1.2 billion copies of the #1 daily devotional, Rhapsody of Realities, were distributed in 2018, exceeding the ministry target of 1 billion copies.

The significance of this is quite overwhelming when the past achievements of the most-translated book in the world, Rhapsody of Realities, is taken into consideration. Over the coursed of 17 years, a little over 1.3 billion copies of the devotional were distributed in every known and inhabited nation under Heaven; this was last year, 2017’s achievement. In this special ‘Year of the Supernatural’, almost all of the 17-year distribution was accomplished, fulfilling the scriptures that all the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God.

There are not many books in the world translated in over 1,000 languages. This phenomenal achievement, announced by the Director of the Rhapsody of Realities department, Pastor Yemisi Kudehinbu, during the IPPC 2018, was made possible by devoted followers of the BLW President, Reverend (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome and is worth celebrating.

This Week In Christian History: John Knox Dies

0

This week marks the anniversary of the death of John Knox, a minister who was a prominent leader in Scotland’s Protestant Reformation.

A noted preacher who was often experiencing persecution for his Protestant views, Knox was a key figure in shaping the rules and regulations of the Reformed Church in Scotland.

In 1559, Knox was elected minister at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, and served in that official position for 13 years.

Not long after preaching what became his last sermon on the 9th of November in 1572, Knox fell ill soon after and passed away.

“Certainly his conviction that the Reformation was God’s cause and must triumph, a conviction he had a remarkable power of impressing upon other minds, was the rock upon which the Reformed Church in Scotland was built,” stated Britannica.

Don’t Worry – Reinhard Bonnke

0

Behind Abraham’s attitude was his faith that God was ordering things. He believed God’s word to him “I am your very great reward” (Gen 15,1).

There was no need for him to live a life of strain and anxiety about loss or gain. If he trusted God, God’s plan would work out in his affairs. He didn’t want to have what God didn’t want him to have.

King David, a thousand years later found the same truth. He adopted Abraham’s outlook and enjoyed the great advantage of letting God take over.

He wrote a song of surprised gratitude (2 Samuel 23) and described God’s plan for him in his house as being “ordered in all things and sure” (v.5). Jesus put the principle of Abraham into His famous promise of the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 6:33. “Seek first the Kingdom God and his righteousness and all these things will be given you as well”.

He said “Don’t worry about your life. Do not worry about tomorrow.”
