Apostle Otu-Appiah Dedicates Bethel Assembly Church Building

0

The Winneba Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Otu-Appiah, has dedicated the Bethel Assembly church building in the Apam District of the Church.

The colourful ceremony was held on Friday, March 10, 2023 much to the delight of members of the Assembly who came in their numbers to witness the historic event.

During the ceremony, Pastor Ishmael Bartels Annan, the Otsew-Jukwa District Minister, exhorted the congregation on the topic: “The Value of the House of God” with reference to Psalms 122:1.

In his message, Pastor Annan expressed concern about the growing reluctance of some contemporary Christians to attend evening services and encouraged them to follow the example of the Israelites, who placed high value on  their temples, priests, and offerings.

He further enumerated the benefits of attending the house of God, including acquiring spiritual and supernatural strength, having divine encounters and visitations, and accessing the ways of God.

“The church building is the house of the Lord God Almighty where most people encounter Him and receive breakthroughs,” he emphasised.

Apostle Otu-Appiah added that wherever believers gather in the house of God, the Lord God Almighty is present. He also noted that the devil knows the importance of the house of God and seeks to prevent people from attending.

What It Means For The Sheep To Have No Shepherd

1. AIMLESSNESS:  People are aimless and without direction when there is no shepherd to lead them out and bring them in.

And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying, Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and WHICH MAY LEAD THEM OUT, AND WHICH MAY BRING THEM IN; THAT THE CONGREGATION OF THE LORD BE NOT AS SHEEP WHICH HAVE NO SHEPHERD.

Numbers 27:15-17

2. DIVISION:  People are divided and without a family when there is no shepherd.

And he said, I SAW ALL ISRAEL SCATTERED UPON THE HILLS, AS SHEEP THAT HAVE NOT A SHEPHERD: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

1 Kings 22:17

3. WEAKNESS AND DISEASE:  People are diseased and weakened without a shepherd.

THE DISEASED HAVE YE NOT STRENGTHENED, NEITHER HAVE YE HEALED THAT WHICH WAS SICK, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.

Ezekiel 34:4-6

4. UNSOLVED TROUBLES:  People have a lot of unsolved troubles when there is no shepherd.

For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, THEY WERE TROUBLED, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHEPHERD.

Zechariah 10:2

5. DESTRUCTION OF YOUNG PEOPLE:  The little ones and the young ones are most affected by the absence of the shepherd.

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I WILL TURN MINE HAND UPON THE LITTLE ONES.

Zechariah 13:7

6. LACK AND SHORTAGE:  People’s needs are not met when there is no shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I SHALL NOT WANT.

Psalm 23:1

7. GOING OFF COURSE:  Sheep need direction to stay on the course of prosperity and blessing for their lives. Sheep receive much direction for their lives through shepherds.

Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Psalm 77:20

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

Psalm 80:1

Pope Francis Invites Catholics To Renew Consecration To Immaculate Heart Of Mary

0

On March 25, Pope Francis encouraged Catholics to renew their act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by praying the rosary. The solemnity of the Annunciation, which will be held on Saturday, will mark one year since Pope Francis devoted Russia and Ukraine to the Blessed Virgin Mary in St. Peter’s Basilica with a prayer calling for peace throughout the globe.

Invitation to Catholics

The Tablet reported that the Pope recalled his historic act of consecration at the end of his general audience on March 22. He also called parishes and prayer groups to renew the Marian consecration yearly. In a separate appeal, Pope Francis urged Christians to remember to pray for “martyred Ukraine, which is suffering so much.”

“Saturday will celebrate the solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, and our minds turn to March 25 of last year, when we devoted the Church and mankind, notably Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” Pope Francis remarked. In addition, he advised against growing weary of leaving the cause of peace to the Queen of Peace.

In 2022, The Vatican News reported that Pope Francis performed a ceremony to consecrate all of humanity, particularly Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. He explained that the act expresses their complete trust in the Virgin Mary amid the “cruel and senseless war” that is taking place in Ukraine.

At the same time that Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the Papal Almoner, offered the same prayer at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, he prayed the act in communion with all of the Catholic Bishops from around the world. Pope John XXIII renewed the consecration following a request made by the Blessed Lady Mary during an apparition at Fatima on July 13, 1917. It was reportedly done in response to the conflict in Ukraine.

St. Bernard Church Now Up For Sale For $250,000 Following Deconsecration in 2022

0

In 2022, St. Bernard Church was shut down due to various reasons. The 1,300-square-metre building was remembered as the “centerpiece of the town”, yet, it was announced that the church is now up for sale.

Selling of St. Bernard Church

The Global News reported that the number of persons attending mass at St. Bernard Church in Nova Scotia dwindled to approximately 30 to 40, resulting in the church’s official closure in the summer of 2022. The structure has been put up for sale with an asking price of $250,000. The real estate agents state that it is among the largest churches in eastern Canada and comprises more than 8,000 blocks of granite in its construction.

As per the CTV News, the interior is covered with plaster and decorated with figures of other religions. Douglas fir plywood sourced from British Columbia was utilized to construct the pews and wall panels.

As mentioned, the president of the Heritage Society of St. Bernard, Jean Le Blanc, stated that he had high hopes that the church would be transformed into apartment units to help alleviate the severe lack of housing in the surrounding rural area.

According to Le Blanc, a study conducted by an architect revealed that the building could function successfully as a housing development with around 28 units if the provincial government or benefactors assisted. He also stated that one of his other hopes is that the artifacts that were housed in the church will be donated to local organizations rather than being sold or thrown away.

According to CBC News, community traditions will end since the landmark church is deconsecrated as the population in the area is decreasing, attendance is reducing, and the building needs many repairs. The process of deconsecration aims to render the building unfit for use either as a place of worship or for secular purposes.

Prophecy: God Plans to Help You!

0

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

I was praying for a politician this week who was going through one of the hardest decision making issues of her life and career. I saw a map fall in her lap giving her a third option that wasn’t on her table of choices. I didn’t tell her the vision but I said, “I feel like there is another option that isn’t on the table yet that God wants to show you.”

She said, “No, there are only two options. I have to choose one of these.”

I said, “Lets pray for God’s wisdom, it’s different even then what experts can come up with. His wisdom is actionable, not just philosophical or theological (although good theology is always actionable).” We prayed together and left the meeting but she was extremely discouraged because she was no closer to knowing what to do then before we met.

Several hours later, I got a call from her: “You have no idea what happened!”

“Tell me,” I said.

“I was in a committee meeting that had nothing to do with my decision I had to make, but as they were putting an issue on the table and everyone was working it through, someone said something so brilliant, so outside the box and it was like it had never occurred to anyone but it was so easy! That’s when I knew you were right, God wanted to give me another option. So I went to a number of colleagues and told them my decision with the only two answers but felt there was a 3rd option that I just couldn’t see. After three conversations it came! Only God could have brought it but we have the 3rd option! A God option!.”

I immediately felt that God was saying to her and to the body of Christ that He has options for us that we may not be seeing. He has wisdom that isn’t here yet but if we ask Him for it, we are going to have solutions, help and relational guidance from God.

For some of you, God is saying “I am giving you wisdom.” To others God is saying “Let Me give you My way of seeing this along with the empathy in the situation so you can know Me and My heart.”

God even has a way forward for what looks like impossible situations or low level resolutions that could only bring a lot of loss and brokenness. God is speaking to those situations: “Let Me be your Redeemer and Resolver.”

One of the spiritual gifts is wisdom, which means to have God’s perceptions and thoughts and plans for His will in your life. That means you are not limited by what you think or can plan or to your own education or life experience but you have the process of the mind of Christ at work in you just like it says in 1 Corinthians 2:16, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Action Items
Pray again over what you need wisdom for. Maybe it’s finances, relationships, legal issues, housing, your career, your children, your marriage and ask God to give you wisdom.

Ask for specific wisdom for specific problems. Look for His answers to come through conversations you are having, sermons you are listening to, or within certain relational connections. When you hear His wisdom – press into it! Lastly, get prayer! Ask someone who has a deep connection to Christ for prayer and pray with them and also ask them to continue praying for you!

The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C. S. Lewis

0

The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C.S. Lewis,” a film tracing C.S. Lewis’ journey from passionate atheist to one of the most influential Christian writers of the past century, is hitting PureFlix just in time for Christmas.

The film, directed by two-time Emmy and BAFTA winner Norman Stone and adapted from Lewis’ memoir, Surprised by Joy, will be available to stream on PureFlix on Christmas Eve.

“The Most Reluctant Convert” stars Max McLean as an adult Lewis, Nicolas Ralph (All Creatures Great & Small) as college-age Lewis and Eddie Ray Martin as child-age Lewis.

The film dramatizes some of the events that led to a young Lewis’ atheism — from the death of his mother to his traumatic experience in the trenches of World War I.

“Lewis lost his mother at 9 years old to cancer, had a terrible relationship with his father,” McLean told The Christian Post. “He saw the brutality of World War I, the butchery of it. And he came to the conclusion that there’s no God behind the universe, a god indifferent to good and evil, or worse, an evil god. So that was his starting point.”

The movie, which has been applauded by critics and even moved theologian Tim Keller to tears, was filmed in 18 locations in and around Oxford, England.

It follows Lewis as he grapples with questions of God’s existence and the impact his friends, including The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, had on his faith journey.

McLean told CP that through “The Most Reluctant Convert,” he hopes viewers “see the God that Lewis sees” while also watching his journey from “vigorous debunker to true believer.”

The acclaimed theater actor, who has spent years of his life adapting Lewis’ work for the stage, said that Tolkein appealed to Lewis’ intellect and imagination, giving him a way to understand Jesus.

“[Lewis] said … ‘If I find myself in desire that no experience in this world could satisfy, the most probable explanation is I was made for another world.’ And that other world is what he was always drawn to and helped others to see as well,” McLean said.

McLean previously adapted Lewis’ books The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce for the stage. And to play the author himself, the actor memorized hours of Lewis’ quotes and writings. He described Lewis as a truth-seeker and a huge personality who “sucked the air out of the room when he came in.”

“He was bigger than life,” he contended. “Before he was a Christian, he was stubborn and bullish. So, he had to tame that. … He channeled it; he humbled himself.”

Lewis, who died in 1963, is one of the best-known Christian authors of all time. His fiction writings have been turned into a number of television and film projects, including the BBC version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and three movies produced by Sony Pictures that grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

A stage production of his book The Horse and His Boy will open at the Museum of the Bible’s World Stage Theater on Jan. 20 and will run more than 40 performances. The Horse and His Boy is Lewis’ fifth book in the Chronicles of Narnia series.

McLean credited Lewis’ staying power to his “ability to capture the imagination about this other world, to get us beyond the here and now, this world.

“He wants us to think of the next world. … It was the way he expressed the other world that made me fall in love with him because it makes me want to go there,” he said.

Sin is Bad For Your Mental Health

0

The immediate effects of the Fall of Adam and Eve were shame, guilt, and fear. They were blindsided by its effects. The knowledge of good and evil did not end up in the way that they had expected. This event established the mental health conditions for their future generations that include us. Paul calls this the law of sin and characterizes us as wretched because of it.[1] This is true in spite of outward appearances.[2]

Paul tells us: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”[3] This statement expresses the core of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross. His Spirit within us now gives us a sustained peace and strength that is not dependent upon the outward circumstances of our lives. When our contentment in life depends upon the condition of our outward circumstances, contentment will always be temporary because they will change. When our contentment is not dependent on them, but comes from God, it is ongoing.

Also, we cannot get enough of the things that we desire in order to arrive at a place of ongoing contentment. We will always seek more without ever arriving. This is why the Bible describes lusts as deceitful. They are deceitful: but also corrupting.[4] James cautions us that the Holy Spirit will not compete with the things of this world for our attention. Grace and exaltation come to us through humility toward God and not by lusting for the things of this world. They cancel each other out. When we cast all of our care on God, we are also casting away all of our lust attachments to the things of the world and all of the stress and anxiety associated with these attachments. Much of the unhappiness in this world results from pursuing things that we believe will make us happy; but, in the end, do not.

We need to recognize the mental health aspects of Biblical spirituality. This is basic in Scripture. Peace and strength from God would deal with the majority of the mental issues that we may have. Being anxious for nothing by casting all of our care on God would deal with stress and anxiety in our lives along with our excessive attachment to things. Resorting to this trust in God at all times is the best way to remain abiding in Christ and in His peace. See Philippians 4:6-7; 1Peter 5:5-7; Proverbs 3:5-6; Matthew 6:25-34, 11:28-30; Psalms 37:7, 55:22; Isaiah 26:3-4, 30:15, 55:6-9; John 6:63; Galatians 5:16-26; Romans 6:13, 8:28; and James 4:6-10.

Lonely Christmas This Year

0

This Christmas, like thousands of isolated Christians across the Middle East and North Africa, Behrooz is determined to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

In Afghanistan, Behrooz was abandoned by his family because he’s a Christian. Now he prays and worships in secret, unable to meet in person with other believers, even if he could find any.

According to UNICEF, Afghanistan is the worst place to be born in the world. Prejudice and persecution run rampant in the country ruled by the Taliban. The total lack of freedom is summed up by a young woman there, describing herself as “trapped in a (burka), only able to peer through a small opening, as though through the bars of a prison window.”

Under threat of discovery and possible execution, Christians like Behrooz keep their faith hidden, living in the shadows, physically isolated from other believers, never meeting publicly or openly celebrating Jesus.

As an American, it’s hard for me to imagine a Christmas so isolated, so distant, from other believers. Pandemic lockdowns gave us a taste of what it feels like to live separated from others. But thousands of Christians across the Middle East and North Africa aren’t just “tasting” separation. It’s their daily diet. They live in solitude every single moment of every single day. They can never embrace another Christian or greet another believer face-to-face in public.

They identify with Mary and Joseph on that first Christmas, shunned by relatives and neighbors, forsaken, and isolated as the holy Christ Child entered the world.

How many Middle East Christians will be worshiping in isolation this Christmas? Thousands  – perhaps even millions

How many Middle East Christians will be worshiping in isolation this Christmas? Thousands  – perhaps even millions.

Isolated, but not alone

Isolation, however, does not necessarily mean being alone. In fact, across Afghanistan and the entire region, isolated believers actually have a church they’re part of. It’s a church that’s virtually impossible to shut down or disrupt. This church does not gather in a building. It meets on their smartphones, digital devices, and television screens.

What would have been unimaginable only a few years ago is now real. Isolated believers in the most hostile locations are able to worship, pray, and share their burdens with each other on their phone apps in real time.

SAT-7 USA (www.sat7usa.org), has just launched Church4Afghanistan. It’s a live social media program that brings interactive encouragement in the local Dari language to isolated Christians across the country, even those living in the remote mountain and desert areas where Afghanistan’s poppy crop is grown, supplying 80% of the world’s opium and heroin.

Dr. Rex Rogers is president of SAT-7 USA (www.sat7usa.org), the U.S. arm of the SAT-7 media ministry that broadcasts Christian and educational programs across the Middle East and North Africa in local languages.
