Go For The Glory!

0

The Hebrew term, which is commonly used in the Old Testament to denote glory is the word, “Kabowd”. It literally means weight or heaviness, but it is used figuratively in the sense of splendour, abundance, honour or glory. In the Old Testament, it is used variously to describe an individual’s wealth, power or majesty, or great honour (Genesis 31:1; 45:13). We can deduce that the glory of God is the expression of all the attributes of God.

Today, people commonly use the term weight in a similar way. For example, we might say a believer has “spiritual weight” (substance) if he possesses a mature, honourable, humble, and just character. This spiritual weight could be described as his “glory”, which makes him stand out from others. This is to say that what will make a church stand out from others is the “spiritual weight” the Church carries; this weight is the manifestation of the very attributes of God.

On the other hand, the Greek reference to glory is the term “Doxa”. The term connotes the notion of reputation, honour, fame, praise, dignity, splendour and brilliance. Thus, Doxa speaks of the real majesty, reputation or opinion belonging to God. And it is a sobering truth that God’s reputation in the world, or the world’s view of God, will depend, to a large extent, on how far His glory is seen in the Church. For the sake of His great name and the image of the Church, there should be evidence of the reality of the living God in the Church.

The church is established to show forth the glory of the God who dwells in us. We should, therefore, do well not to engage in acts that grieve the Spirit of God in us. (Ephesians 2:18-22) This is because the Holy Spirit is very sensitive; “reverently hypersensitive,” hence, although the Spirit never leaves us (John 14:6), the anointing diminishes. That is, the sense of His presence could be gone, and it would seem as though He has left us.

In the same way, the glory of God ought to be jealously guarded because it can be pushed out of the church. When that happens, the Church loses her attraction to the nations (2 Chronicles 7:19-22). Where the glory of God is absent in the Church, even though there could be the presence of the priest, the temple, the altar and sacrifices as in the days of Eli, the priest, revelation could be rare; the people cast restraint because the glory of God has been pushed out of the temple (1 Samuel 3:1-2; 4:21-22).

The glory of God is an inheritance of the Church, and for that matter, every child of God. God’s glory is not just a theoretical concept to be learned. It is a heavenly reality that can continuously be experienced in the Church.
The fact that God dwells in His creation and is indivisibly present everywhere is a generally accepted truth of the Christian faith. No point in creation is nearer to or further from God than any other (Acts 17:26-28).

When the glory of God is in the Church, worship and sacrifice are made spontaneously without compulsion (2 Chronicles 5:13-14; 7:1-2; Exodus 33:9-10). Also, people respond quickly to the gospel. When the glory of God is in the Church, there is also the experience of the supernatural and transformation. The supernatural is the unexplainable manifestations of the power of God in the life of the Church (Acts 5:15-16; 19:12; 8:5-8; 12:5-17), while the transformation in the church rests on the extent, the Church can radiate the very beauty and holiness of God (Ephesians 5:27; 1Peter 2:9-10).

The Church that seeks to possess nations should be like Moses who desired to experience the presence of God – a church that through prayer will cause God to rend the heavens open and descend into our land (Isaiah 64:1), a Church that trusts in the Father who is in heaven and thus seeks God Himself and not just His blessings. This is what makes the difference between nominal Christian life and the life radiant with His glory. This makes the difference between generations of believers; it is the difference between denominations; it is the distinction between Ministers.

So, let us all make conscious effort as individuals and as a church to go for the glory of God by purifying ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God and by devoting ourselves to the ministry of prayer and the study of the Word.

Pray For The UK Amid Opposition To Upcoming Franklin Graham Tour

0

“Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.”
—2 Samuel 10:12, ESV

There are plenty of grim statistics surrounding what some people call a post-Christian environment in the United Kingdom. In recent years, at least one survey has stated more than half of the residents claim no religion at all. Other studies point to a rise in secularism among youth.

Beginning this spring, Franklin Graham will make several stops across the U.K.—from Glasgow, Scotland, to London in the fall—holding one-day evangelistic rallies to share a message of God’s love. The Graham Tour has already met its share of opposition from media, some saying Graham is unwelcome in their communities and protesting the events.

But the reported data and media reports aren’t dampening the enthusiasm of Jesus followers throughout the island nation in northwestern Europe.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) is joining scores of evangelistic initiatives in 2020 throughout the U.K. This is the year of united proclamation of the Gospel.

Thousands of Christians around the United Kingdom came together Saturday in churches like this one for a national prayer gathering ahead of Franklin Graham’s U.K. tour, which kicks off this spring.

“In each part of the country, Christian groups are feeling this should be a year of evangelism,” said Roger Chilvers, BGEA director of training and church ministry in the U.K. “If you were to ask them, ‘Why?’ it may not be easy to put a finger on it, but they feel God has put this on their heart to make this year a year of evangelism.”

More than 3,400 believers came together this past Saturday for a national prayer gathering ahead of the Graham Tour. They united in prayer, collectively asking God to draw people of all ages to His everlasting love.

Starting next month, BGEA will host the Christian Life and Witness Course at 136 locations around the U.K. as a way for Christians to learn how to share their faith.

Embrace Vision 2023 – Apostle Eric Nyamekye Tells Ministers

0

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has appealed to ministers and wives to fully embrace the 5-year strategic vision of the church (Vision 2023) in order to make it a reality.

According to him, when church leaders accept the Vision as their own, they will be able to conform to the requirements of the Vision.

“Read, understand and accept the Vision as if it were your own, let it reside in you, then you can fully embrace the new rules, roles and rituals contained in the new Vision,” he said.

The Chairman said this on Sunday, January 26, 2020 when he threw more light on Vision 2023 on the final day of the 7th Ministers and Wives’ Conference.

In his presentation, Apostle Nyamekye stated that every institution has a system which is formed due to a group of people’s regular contact with each other.

He explained that, as a result of its patterned relationships, systems are a collective unit by nature, function as a whole, and behave as one entity.

The Chairman said that, although it takes time to embrace change, the loyalty and commitment of the ministers to the church should cause them to shift from the status quo and adapt to the change process.

In order to respond positively to the change process, the Chairman advised the church leaders to accept the Vision as their own and internalize it, saying that, “For the church to embrace the Vision, ministers must paint a mental picture of the intended result and tell it members over and over again until it becomes a legend.”

Trump Tells March For Life Crowd He Welcomes Their Commitment

0

President Donald Trump credited attendees at the 47th-annual March for Life for their commitment to protect the life of unborn and born children.

“Together we are the voice for the voiceless,” Trump told tens of thousands of people gathered at a noontime rally Jan. 24 on the National Mall.

“You stand for life each and every day. You provide housing, education, jobs and medical care for the women that you serve,” the president said.

Trump was the first president to speak in person in the 47-year history of the March for Life. He spoke for about 10 minutes at the start of the rally and before attendees began their march to the Supreme Court.

“Today, as president of the United States, I am truly proud to stand with you. We’re here for a very simple reason: to defend the right for every child, born and unborn, to fulfill their God-given potential,” Trump said.

He also credited the young people who made up a large portion of the crowd for their commitment to life, saying they were “the heart of the March for Life.”

“It’s your generation that is making this a pro-life nation,” the president said, adding, “You are powered by prayer and motivated by pure unselfish love.”

Trump’s speech before the largely supportive crowd was punctuated by applause and cheers. Calls of “Four more years” welcomed him to the podium.

The pro-life movement has been buoyed by Trump’s appointment of two conservative justices to the Supreme Court. Their goal has been a reversal of the court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion.

Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, addressed the rally in a video recorded in Rome prior to Trump’s arrival at the rally. Pence met with Pope Francis earlier in the day.

He said in the video that he thanked the pope “for all that he and Catholic Americans have done to defend the sanctity of human life in the history of this movement.”

Karen Pence thanked attendees for their witness and compassion for the unborn. “Thank you for standing for life,” she said. “We cannot be more proud to be on this journey with you.”

The vice president called Trump the “most pro-life president in American history” and a “champion for the movement.”

Algeria Orders Another Christian Church To Close As Crackdown Continues

0

Yet another Christian church has been ordered to shut down in Algeria as the government’s crackdown on houses of worship continues.

The United Kingdom-based Christian persecution advocacy organization Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that Hope Evangelical Church in Oran city in western Algeria received a closure order issued by a local court earlier this month.

The church is the latest in a series of churches that have received similar orders under a 2006 law requiring that all non-Muslim places of worship be authorized by a government board called the National Commission for Non-Muslim Worship.

“The closure of House of Hope church and the increased government pressure on Christians and other religious minorities in Algeria is a cause for concern,” CSW Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said in a statement.

CSW, which is active in over 20 countries, reports that 13 churches in total have been shut down since last January.

“The 2006 law is being used as a pretext to clamp down on churches in Algeria despite the fact that the commission it created is yet to meet to consider the requests it has already received,” Thomas stated. “This is manifestly unjust.”

Thomas claimed that if the commission is not willing or able to fulfill its duties under its mandate, then the government should either reconstitute the committee or repeal the 2006 law to ensure religious freedom in Algeria.

As for Hope Evangelical Church in Oran city, Morning Star News reports that the closure order was supposed to be received last fall when other churches received their orders. However, the church’s pastor, Rachid Seighir, did not receive the order until Jan. 11 even though the order was issued on Nov. 10.

“This official document was to be delivered by a bailiff appointed by the public prosecutor at the court of Oran [Province], but it wasn’t so,” Seighir was quoted as saying.

Seighir explained that his lawyer took the initiative to obtain the ruling.

The pastor said that people affected by church closure orders have just 10 days to appeal. However, he said the judge granted the church an exception because of the delay in getting the order.

‘Thank You For Standing For Life’: Franklin Graham, Cissie Graham Lynch March For Life

0

Franklin Graham and his daughter Cissie Graham Lynch were among thousands who walked almost shoulder-to-shoulder down Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Avenue on Friday for the annual March for Life.

It’s the 47th year for the peaceful protest, which was officially born in response to the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion. The March has grown since then, and this year’s event included President Donald Trump as a speaker.

“It’s amazing to see people in our nation’s capital stand for this issue,” Graham shared during the walk, clad in his black baseball cap and white tennis shoes.

“For President [Donald] Trump to come here and do this—I’m proud of him. He has guts.

“He’s a flawed individual like we all are, but he is the right man for this particular era at this point in history. He’s the only president who has stood for life like this.”

Trump became the first United States president to speak at the pro-life event when he took the stage on Friday. The crowd cheered as he reiterated the goal of the day: “to defend the right of every child—born and unborn—to fulfill their God-given potential.”

“All of us here today understand an eternal truth,” Trump continued. “Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God.”

Graham spent a quiet moment in prayer ahead of the March. Afterward he said, “My prayer is that abortion laws will be terminated and abolished, so I’m here today with thousands of other people to march and stand for life.”

Psalm 127:3 declares, “Children are a heritage from the Lord.” That’s something that nobody—mothers, fathers, legislators—should take lightly.

“God created life,” Graham said. “No one has the right to take life. Pray for all these people here today. I want to thank people for coming and supporting this cause.

“Mr. President, I just want to say thank you for coming down to address the March for Life. That is huge. You’re the only president to ever do that. … Thank you for taking a stand for life. It’s so meaningful to each and every one of us.”

Cissie Graham Lynch, who recently shared her own struggles with motherhood, couldn’t stop smiling on Friday as she walked with her father down Constitution Avenue. The March proceeded through occasional drops of cold rain, past the United States Capitol and ended in front of the Supreme Court of the United States building.

God Needs Our Undivided Loyalty – Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah Tells Church Leaders

0

The immediate-past Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, has challenged ministers of the gospel to remain committed to God and exhibit undivided loyalty to Him at all times.

“God requires us to know the times and serve him with undivided attention and loyalty. You cannot be a good pastor when your loyalty is divided. You will not survive. We need to show ourselves as fortified workmen for God,” he stated.

Speaking on the theme, “A Glorious Church in a Speeding World” at the climax of the 7th Ministers and Wives’ Conference at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, on Sunday, January 26, 2020, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah noted that the church today is faced with ministers whose loyalty and service to God is questionable, because they are not able to speak against the ills of society.

He, however, assured that the church will continue to survive and will never know any defeat since it is built on Christ. He further advised the ministers to pray at all times and seek the face of God to be able to understand the times and thereby live up to expectation, citing 1 Chronicles 12:32-33 to drum home his point.

Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah revealed that a research finding in the US by Pew Research Centre has revealed that there was a decline in the growth of Christianity globally. He stated that hundreds of churches have collapsed in the US, Germany and the Netherlands, with the average age for church attendance being 61 years in the US.

He attributed this decline to the fact that some Christians have compromised their faith and aligned with the ideals and philosophies of the world. This, according to him, is weakening the strength of the church in the contemporary generation.

“The Lord needs our loyalty. Let us not condone and connive with the world. It’s time to speak out against vices in the society such as homosexuality; it is not normal. It is a deviant behavior. We need to confront them. They are suffering and need our help,” he said.

He, therefore, called for serious prayers for the Lord to raise honest men for his work in this end times. He also advised the ministers to get into the deep through prayer and meditation until they feel God’s presence before undertaking any endeavor. “Go to the Lord in prayers and worship until you get closer to the Almighty,” he reiterated.

The former Chairman further bemoaned the situation where preaching, singing and worshipping in the church was becoming an epicenter of acting. “Acting is one most dangerous thing facing the church today. Certain things done in the church are not real; we are enjoying things in our churches that are not real. Let us be true Christians in worship at all times,” he stressed.
