Let The Oppressed Go Free

0

Leviticus 25:10: And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

To be oppressed means to crack in pieces, struggle, be bruised or crushed. The oppressed are those who are dominated by others. They act against their will to please others. People act in ways that give them a feeling of superiority over those they oppress.

Their victims cannot express their opinions on issues. Like sheep led to the slaughter, they cannot open their mouths. The oppressed are denied justice and are punished for offences they don’t commit. The oppressed are dehumanized people.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ restores dignity to people. It makes them new creatures who have no less value than anyone else. That is what being born again is all about. The devil is the chief agent of oppression. People around the world are experiencing forms of oppression doctors and psychologists cannot explain.

The world acknowledges the existence of physical oppression but deny the reality of spiritual oppression. The truth however, is that spiritual oppression is more dangerous than the physical one. The Church must tackle both physical and spiritual oppression. Jesus Christ came into the world to heal those who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

Sickness and curses are some of the means through which the devil oppresses people. The incidence of disease and the devastating effect of curses on people around the world are alarming.

Believers must be far more aggressive in employing the power of God to free people from oppression. We are armed with the power of the name of Jesus Christ, the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, the power of the Word of God and the power of the Holy Ghost.

Jesus: Prophecy Fulfilled

0

“As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet”. Matthew 1:20, 22 NLT

In my late 20s, I visited a prayer camp with some members to seek God’s face. The leader of the camp prophesied to me about the growth of my ministry. Around that time however, our church was just a new and struggling ministry, with no physical evidence of the phenomenal growth she was prophesying.

Today, all her prophecies according to the will of God have come to pass.

Isaiah the prophet revealed God’s plan about the birth and life of Jesus Christ 700 years before it happened. In the scripture above, what seemed like an endless wait ended with the exact fulfillment of God’s Word.

Is there a prophetic word hanging over you for years; DO NOT DESPAIR! God will watch over His Word to manifest it in season and you shall be a testimony of what His power can do in the affairs of men.

“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55:11 NLT

Declaration:

May you receive a word from God this season; may His word produce fruit in your life, and prosper you according to His rich purpose for you, in Jesus’ name.

This Is The Time

0

I believe that this is where we are today. We are seeing an unprecedented outpouring of God’s Spirit. We are receiving the blessing. We are seeing a measure of His glory, so much so, that sometimes we are nearly overcome with it all.
But we haven’t seen anything yet!

Here are four practical steps to help you take the limit off God in your life during the coming year:

  1. Begin to see God as He really is: You will take the limits off God when you begin to see Him as He really is. Don’t settle for what you think He is or what someone told you He is. He is Almighty! Nothing is too big for God … not your sorrow, your sickness, your mate, your problems … Nothing! He is without limit. His power is without limit.
  2. Don’t settle for blessing: The Church was born in a great demonstration of apostolic power. It was not brought into being by great orators or because of great preaching; it was born by a demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Paul, one of the greatest preachers in all of history, was a brilliant man, and an educated man, yet this is what he had to say about the results he had for God:

…my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

I Corinthians 2:4

It wasn’t what he said as much as what he demonstrated.

The greatest lack in the Church today is power. God told us to have power. We have teaching, we have tongues, we have blessings, but we have not seen the power that God wants to unleash in and through our lives. Jesus said:

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Mark 16:17-18

Beloved … I’m telling you … we haven’t seen anything yet! God is

…able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

Ephesians 3:20

The Church has entered into a place of great blessing, but it has failed to press on into the place of power that God has for it. It has stopped far short of its potential!

I prophesize to you that Jesus Christ is coming soon. I also prophesize that the Church will be raptured in much greater demonstration of power than it was born in … and it was born in a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit accompanied by apostolic miracles that literally “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). Press on in! Go beyond blessing! Ask God to release His power in your life!

  1. Understand God’s will for you: One of the greatest limitations that we put on God is not knowing His will for us.

It is God’s will to bless you and meet every need that you have. It is His will that you live in a place of health and happiness and abundance. The Bible says:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

III John 2

It is God’s will to save every person from his sins:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

II Peter 3:9

It is God’s will to heal the sick and afflicted:

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

I Peter 2:24

Knowing God’s will helps you remove limitations from Him, enables you to pray with faith, and frees His power to work in your life.

  1. Get your eyes off your circumstances: When God birthed in my heart the vision of the School of Ministry, it was overwhelming. In my hotel room in Washington, D.C., just prior to a seminar I was holding, God spoke these words to me:

“DO NOT LOOK TO THE BIGNESS OF YOUR NEED, LOOK TO THE BIGNESS OF YOUR GOD. Your circumstances are hindrances to seeing My abilities! If you keep your eyes on your circumstances, the devil will use your circumstances to defeat you and accuse the Word of God – the written and the living Word. Your VICTORY is in keeping your eyes on the BIGNESS of your GOD and His ABILITY. He has promised to take you STEP by STEP by STEP-not all at once, but step by step – AND EACH STEP WILL BE A MIRACLE!”

Some people are determined to look at their problems. There is no way that you can change the direction in which they are looking. Their problems look like huge mountains blocking their progress.

If you are to take the limits off God in the coming year, then you must look away from your circumstances and your own inability to His divine ability! You must prepare to do battle … and that is the subject of our next lesson.

Say this faith declaration out loud:

Knowing God’s will helps me remove limitations from Him, enables me to pray in faith, and frees His power to work in my life!

Kirk Franklin Opens Up About His Struggle With Depression, Anxiety

0

Kirk Franklin is opening up about his struggle with anxiety and depression in 2019 after what he called a “high amount of loss” in his life.

Franklin posted a video detailing his struggles on his Instagram Friday.

“[In] 2019, I experienced a high amount of loss in my life. I went to more funerals in 2019 than I’ve ever been to in my life. I went to the funerals of friends, the funerals of people’s parents and the funeral of people’s kids and it was a lot,” he said in the video.

In recent months, Franklin helped support Tony Evans, who lost his wife to cancer in December. Franklin also supported fellow Christian music artist TobyMac, whose 21-year-old son unexpectedly died in October.

“It just really brought a lot of anxiety. To me, I really struggle with a lot of anxiety and really got into a funk that I couldn’t really get out of. [It was] this just really dark funk, that I was in, depression, battling it. Not only that, just the anx (sic) that death can bring to you also is this anxiety about the future. It’s a fear of who’s next, what’s next?” Franklin added.

The 49-year-old then noted that he has reached out to his therapist.

“I was just talking to him (his therapist) about being very anxious and very consumed with fear and worry and just the struggle with it all. He said, ‘When I begin to live a life of gratitude, more gratitude then I will begin to be more selfless because fear is rooted in self,” Franklin recalled.

“Think about it, when you start a fearful conversation it’s ‘What about me? What’s going to happen to me? How am I going to pay my bills? How am I going to make it? They’re going to hurt me, I’m going to get sick, I’m going to lose this’… Everything starts with I, it’s very self-focused,” he said.

Franklin noted that along with his therapist, a recent trip to the Dominican Republic significantly helped him realize how “grateful” he should be for the life he has. While in the Dominican Republic, Franklin recalled witnessing 7 or more people sleeping in one bed without electricity or windows. He also touched on the rampant sex-trafficking crisis that has plagued many kids in the country causing wide-spread fear among young people.

“So if we can begin to live a life of gratitude, always giving thanks even when things are dark – they could be darker … I promise you, it can be worse. So, live a life of gratitude, then you will begin to be more selfless, give God thanks for what He has already done,” he urged.

Popular End Times Televangelist Jack Van Impe Dies At 88-Years-Old

0

Controversial yet wildly popular end times televangelist Jack Van Impe has died at the age of 88.

Jack Van Impe Ministries International confirmed the passing of the eschatological pastor in a statement on Saturday calling him a “good and faithful servant.”

“The beloved Dr. Jack Van Impe was welcomed into Heaven by His blessed Savior and Lord who he had so faithfully served in ministry for over 70 years,” the statement read.

“Please pray for his beloved wife and lifelong ministry partner Rexella and their families as they grieve this immense loss and for wisdom as she and the Board lead the ministry in the days ahead.”

Van Impe – often referred to as the “walking Bible” for his expansive memorization of Bible verses – first gained popularity through his television show Jack Van Impe Presents in the late 80s and 90s. The show – which starred both him and his wife Rexella – featured a controversial segment of the couple analyzing current news headlines through the lens of the second coming and end times prophecies.

According to Christianity Today, Van Impe was no stranger to controversy. Reportedly, after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the television pastor became increasingly worried about Islam. During Barack Obama’s presidency, Van Impe even claimed that Obama was part of a Muslim plot to infiltrate the United States.

Then in 2011, Van Impe had a falling out with Christian TV network, Trinity Broadcasting Network. Van Impe reportedly split from TBN after the network refused to air an episode of his show where he claims megachurch pastors Rick Warren and Robert Schuller were secretly promoting Chrislam – a new religion mixing Christianity and Islam.

Nonetheless, the show continued independently with its last episode airing on January 10, 2020.

Amid his passing, popular conservative evangelical leader Franklin Graham offered his condolences to the family.

Graham wrote on Twitter, “Our condolences go out to Rexella Van Impe as news comes about the death of her husband, evangelist Jack Van Impe.

“He was among a large number of young men who served in the early days with Youth for Christ. Dr. Van Impe became known as “The Walking Bible” because he memorized large portions of Scripture, inspiring young people to do the same.”

This Week In Christian History: Pope Warns Against ‘Americanism’, Robert Boyle, Bible Translator Dies

0

Christianity is a faith with a long and detailed history, with numerous events of lasting significance occurring throughout the ages.

Each week brings the anniversaries of great milestones, horrid tragedies, amazing triumphs, telling tribulations, inspirational progress, and everything in between.

Here are just a few things that happened this week, Jan. 19-25, in Church history. They include the birth of a notable scientist and theologian, Pope Leo XIII issuing a warning against what he called “Americanism,” and the death of a prominent Bible translator.

This week marks the anniversary of when Bishop Miles Coverdale, a Protestant Reformation leader who helped William Tyndale translate the Bible into English, passed away. Ordained a priest in 1514 and later made an Augustinian friar at Cambridge, Coverdale came to support the Protestant Reformation and at one point had to flee England due to persecution.

“In 1529 he helped William Tyndale (q.v.) translate the Pentateuch in Hamburg and then apparently settled in Antwerp, where he translated the Bible,” explained Britannica.

“He later returned to England and took up the Reform cause, translating tracts and editing the Great Bible (1539). In 1540 Henry VIII’s religious policies forced him to flee, and he settled in Strasbourg. After Henry’s death he returned to England, supported the new Protestant religious line, and was made bishop of Exeter (1551).”

A portrait, circa 1898, of Pope Leo XIII.

This week marks the anniversary of when Pope Leo XIII sent a letter Cardinal James Gibbons of Baltimore, Maryland, expressing concern over what he deemed “Americanism.” In his official message, Leo XIII denounced the idea of placing American cultural and social norms above church teaching, calling upon bishops in the United States to “repudiate and condemn it as being most injurious to themselves and to their country.” “The underlying principle of these new opinions is that, in order to more easily attract those who differ from her, the Church should shape her teachings more in accord with the spirit of the age and relax some of her ancient severity and make some concessions to new opinions,” wrote the pontiff. “It does not need many words, beloved son, to prove the falsity of these ideas if the nature and origin of the doctrine which the Church proposes are recalled to mind.”

For his part, Cardinal Gibbons delayed the publication of the letter, and wrote a response to Leo XIII that March, claiming that “Americanism” as it was described did not exist in the U.S. Church.

Gibbons also wrote to a friend, saying that he considered the papal letter “very discouraging” and felt it showed “that the American Church is not understood abroad.”

Robert Boyle (1627-1691), a notable scientist considered the “Father of Chemistry” who also wrote extensively on Christian theology.

This week marks the anniversary of when Robert Boyle, a theologian considered by many to be the “Father of Chemistry,” was born in Lismore Castle, County Waterford, Ireland. A prolific intellectual, Boyle not only wrote extensively about chemistry, medicine, and natural history, and helped found the Royal Society of London, he also devoted a great deal of time to matters of Christian belief. “His prolific output also included Christian devotional and ethical essays and theological tracts on biblical language, the limits of reason, and the role of the natural philosopher as a Christian,” noted Britannica. “He sponsored many religious missions as well as the translation of the Scriptures into several languages.”

Pastor Of 5,000-Member Church Plant Identifies Key Ministry Trends Leading Millennials To Christ

0

Pastor Tim Lucas doesn’t buy into the idea that millennials and Generation Z are the least Christian generations to date.

“There’s the popular thought where Millennials are leaving the church in droves. That’s true; there’s a record rise of the religious ‘nones,’ but I see it more like a rise of the religious ‘dones,’” the pastor of Liquid Church in Parsippany, New Jersey, told The Christian Post.

“There’s a generation growing up who are done with traditional church and the way we know it from the last 50 years. However, they are probably some of the most spiritually open and curious generations we’ve ever seen.”

According to Lucas, the problem isn’t with young people; it’s with the way the message of the Gospel has traditionally been presented by the church.

“I think the hand-wringing approach to millenials and Gen Z is an invitation for a wholesale reinvention of the methods by which we present Jesus to a new generation,” he said.

“There’s a cultural shift underway, where young people are extremely experientially oriented. They want to know, ‘What’s the social good in this before I buy it? So the church’s traditional message of evangelism was propositional truth: Here’s why Christianity is valid and a superior belief system. The Good News was proclaimed and explained.”

However, when Jesus shared the “Gospel of grace with truly hell-bent pagans,” He adopted a “double approach,” Lucas argued.

“There was a demonstration of grace: Be healed, serve the poor. And then there’s the proclamation of the Gospel: Your sins are forgiven,” he said. “Up and coming generations are concerned with biblical justice; how the church tangibly helps the poor and needy. It’s a reverse discipleship process. The church must reclaim its birthright of saying, ‘The message of the Gospel is good for both the soul and body.’”

Lucas knows a thing or two about reaching rising generations and the unchurched for Christ.

In 2007, he and a handful of his 20-something friends founded Liquid Church in a post-Christian region of the northeast where the words “dry, boring, stale, and irrelevant” are seen as synonymous with “church.”

“In the gospel of John, Jesus promises living water to spiritually thirsty people and we believe church should be refreshing,” Lucas explained. “We launched Liquid Church in a very dry region of our country. We have a God-given vision to saturate our state with the gospel of Jesus Christ without watering down the Gospel.”

Fast forward to 2020 and Liquid Church is a thriving, multi-campus church with over 5,000 members of all ages and demographics.

“We have five generations all sitting in the pews at the same time,” he noted. “Boomers, Gen X, Millenials, Gen Z — there is an unprecedented moment of generational transfer that’s happening. We’re seeing older generations and millennials partnering together to revitalize churches.”

Liquid Church, Lucas said, seeks to “saturate the state of New Jersey with the Gospel through two hands, one open, and one closed.”

“We’re close-handed about the message, meaning the Gospel never changes, yet we’re open about the methods because they always need to change to reach the hearts and minds for the next generation.

“The liquid metaphor is appropriate because we need to take a fluid approach to ministry. We’re not changing the message but our methods need to change. The Gospel of grace is timeless, but the methods need to look different to reach the next generation for Christ.”

An estimated 3,500 churches in North America will close their doors this year, Lucas stressed. “Something needs to change. It’s an absolute tragedy.”

In his new book, Liquid Church: 6 Powerful Currents to Saturate Your City for Christ, the pastor pairs up with award-winning researcher and author Dr. Warren Bird to share the ministry currents that are resonating with rising generations and attracting thousands to the cause of Christ.

His goal, he told CP, is to inspire church leaders wanting to broaden their reach, whether they serve a new church plant, a fast-growing congregation, or an aging ministry.

“I want to help pastors identify when their church is ready for rebirth,” he said. “When you wake up and realize you’re preaching to the choir or already converted every Sunday, your church needs a rebirth. At that point, you’re in the ‘movement-to museum stage.’ You find you’re burying more people than you’re baptizing.”

“It’s difficult to get a church when it’s in that decline. Another indication your church is ready for rebirth is when the cost of maintenance starts outpacing the impact of the ministry.”

Two Liquid Church campuses are “rebirth campuses,” he said. “One church was down to 27 seniors when they called us. They were going to close their doors. They said, ‘We hate your music, but you’re baptizing our grandchildren.’”

“These senior saints admitted they had confused the message with the methods. In 30 days, they voted unanimously to donate their entire church building property, assets, parsonage to Liquid. They took an incredible risk to be reborn into a new era of ministry.”

For the next 18 months, tattooed millennials partnered with senior saints to remodel the church, replacing stained glass with hi-definition screens. On opening day, the church had over 1,000 visitors.

“It became Liquid’s fastest-growing campus in the church’s history at that time,” the pastor said. “You have an older church that has assets, a spiritual legacy, but typically few people, no vision, not much momentum. They’re joining hands with younger churches that have momentum and vision and reaching new converts, and together, they’re reaching a lost world with the Gospel.”

Today, those 27 seniors still attend Liquid Church. Many of them have become mentors to those in the next generation.

Kanye West Shares How Jesus Saved Him From Devil; Hundreds Dedicate Lives To Christ At Youth Conference

0

Kanye West shared how Jesus radically changed his life and saved him from the devil while performing along with his Sunday Service choir at a youth conference where hundreds of students dedicated their lives to Christ.

“I believe Jesus died for my sins. There was a time when the devil had me,” West testified before the 12,400 students gathered for the Strength to Stand Conference on Sunday.

“Do you know the good news? Jesus can save a wretch like me,” he continued as the 135-member Sunday Service choir around him sang the words, “I stretch my hands to you/Father I stretch.”

“When I don’t know what to do, I can still stretch my hands,” he said.

Surrounded by 38,000 flowers, West and the choir put on an unforgettable service at the East Tennessee conference, complete with rap, gospel-infused songs, and traditional hymns.

By wearing the same gray outfit as the choir, West took the focus off himself. With little stage presence, the hip hop artist stayed within the choir throughout the majority of the service and spoke few words as he performed. The goal of the Sunday Service was clear: God, and not Kanye, was going to be glorified.

And glorified He was.

West powerfully spoke the lyrics of “Jesus Is King” tracks “Selah,” “Follow God,” and the fan-favorite “Closed on Sunday.” During the service, the Sunday Service Choir belted out songs including “Ultralight Beam,” “Every Hour” and “Revelation 19:1,” along with traditional hymns including “How Great Thou Art” and “Jesus Loves Me.”

“Hallelujah, He is wonderful!” the choir sang as students raised their hands in worship, reflecting the communal spirit of the church.

West’s pastor, Los Angeles-based Adam Tyson, delivered a short sermon on the story of the Prodigal Son.

“The Father is saying to his son, ‘If you’ll come back, I’m so glad you’re back. I love you,’” Tyson said. “Are you hearing me this morning? If you come back to the Father, He runs after you. He loves you. He wants to embrace you. He wants to give you a holy kiss; a kiss of mercy, a kiss of love, a kiss of acceptance. It’s from the Father and it’s for you. It’s forgiveness for you.”

“When you come to Christ, when you come to the Father through the blood of Jesus, He gives you the garment of praise,” he continued. “He gives you authority over sin and you have authority over the devil and over this world.”

Tyson concluded his message with an altar call, during which over 200 students dedicated their lives to Christ, according to event coordinators.
