Act To Save Country From Corruption – Presbyterian Church Of Ghana Tells Government

0
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has called on the authorities to stop lamenting on corruption and act decisively to save the nation from the scourge.
It said it was a matter of concern that in spite of the persistent corruption in the public service, there was a seeming lack of commitment on the part of authorities to deal with the canker.

“The high-place lamentation alone does not shape morality; action does,” the PCG said in a communique issued at the end of its 19th General Assembly at Abetifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region yesterday.

It implored the government and other state institutions to work with the law courts to swiftly punish all those found guilty of corruption. The one-week assembly was on the theme: “Let Christ be formed in you”.

Concern

The communique said over the years, there had been commentaries by personalities and groups decrying the widespread corruption in the country,  but what was even more disturbing was that in spite of the “high and low levels of corruption in the public service, there was a seeming lack of commitment on the part of the authorities to deal with the canker”.

Legislation

It said it could not fathom why the many anti-corruption legislation in the country had remained ineffective. “The impressive array of anti-corruption legislation in the nation’s law books and the existence of many high-profile anti-corruption bodies are proving almost ineffective;’ it said.

Crime and Vigilantism

The communique noted with concern the steady rise in crime.

“Although reports by the African Institute for Crime, Policy and Governance Research (AFRICPGR) show that murder cases reduced from 2.2 per 100,000 people in 2012 to 1.7 in 2018, the number of murders reported by the media in the first half of 2019 does not present a comforting picture.

In the same report, robbery cases are said to have risen from 4.4 per 100,000 people in  2012 to 6.5 in 2018.

An equally worrying development is the rise in kidnapping cases in recent times: it said.

“The General Assembly feels distressed by the unresolved case of the kidnapped Takoradi girls. We express solidarity with the families of these young ladies and pray for strength and God’s grace for them.

“While the General Assembly does not intend to play down the pain and widespread anger, it wishes to caution the public against riding on the pain of this deep sense of loss to profile all foreigners or any group of people in ways that generate hatred”, it said.

Relative peace

The church noted with admiration, the government’s ability to hold the nation together in relative peace, despite the numerous challenges that had confronted the country in recent years.

“The General Assembly recalls, with a sense of gratitude to God, the restoration of peace in Dagbon and urges all stakeholders, especially citizens of the area, to work hard to sustain the peace,” it said.

“While congratulating the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and successive governments on this achievement, the General Assembly encourages the current government to step up efforts to resolve similar conflicts in other parts of the country”, it added.

Socio-economic Issues

The communique commended the President and his government for the relatively prudent manner in which they had run the country so far.

“The General Assembly commends the President, especially, for showing sensitivity to the expectations of the electorate. The President demonstrated a sense of solidarity with the people when he listened to the call for the suspension of the proposed construction of a multi-million-dollar new chamber for the Parliament of Ghana.

“The General Assembly similarly lauds the collective achievement of Parliament, civil society and the Executive in passing into law the Right to Information Bill.  It hopes that this positive approach to governance will be enhanced to enrich Ghana’s democracy,” it said.

It further recognised “the bold effort” the government was making in managing the economy.

“However, the PCG identifies with lamentations of the public over the difficult economic conditions, despite the improvement in the various economic indicators.

“For most Ghanaians, those indicators are of no relevance unless they are reflected in tangible ways in their daily lives,” it observed and called on the government to do everything possible to reduce the high cost of living.

Sanitation

It said the PCG had started a campaign dubbed: “National Cleanliness/Sanitation Campaign”, beginning with selected schools in Accra.

The campaign, which has the slogan: Godliness; Cleanliness”, has subsequently been given a national dimension, with a formal launch at the 19th General Assembly.

It will be extended to all congregations, with the objective of empowering communities to adopt effective waste management practices in homes and neighbourhoods as part of witnessing to the Christ-like character of believers,” it said.

Sexual Education

The communique expressed disquiet about “what appears to be a preparation towards the introduction and dissemination of a policy document on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in our schools”.

Although it said a careful sexuality education could be helpful and was, therefore, desirable, “the General Assembly cautions against the indoctrination of Ghanaian children and youth with ideas and attitudes that are incompatible with the religious and cultural values of our people. The introduction of inappropriate concepts and practices to our children of any age that can be damaging to the institutions of marriage and the family must be avoided.

South Carolina Town Lifts Ban On Worship Services Being Held In Civic Center

0
A South Carolina town has lifted its ban on the holding of worship services at its local civic center. Local authorities in Edisto Beach decided to scrap the new rules after being put under pressure by a federal lawsuit filed by a local church.

Around 40 members from Redeemer Fellowship of Edisto Island filed an agreement Monday which ended the lawsuit and allowed worship services to continue once again in the civic center. The suit was originally filed in May after the Edisto Beach City Council ruled that the Edisto Beach Civic Center must not be used for “religious worship services.”

“Defendant Town of Edisto Beach covenants that it will treat ‘religious worship services’ on equal terms with other community groups and uses in its Civic Center policies, including its Facility Use Guidelines,” the agreement reads, according to documents released by Alliance Defending Freedom.

The town agreed to issue the congregation with $3,112.85 in compensation and must also pay the group’s legal fees which amounted to some $50,000.

“We commend Edisto Beach for lifting its ban, which was inconsistent with the town’s own statement that it welcomes ‘civic, political, business, social groups and others’ to use its civic center,” ADF Legal Counsel Christiana Holcomb explained in a statement.

“Its previous policy that singled out one form of expression — worship — as inferior to other forms of speech was clearly unconstitutional. Redeemer Fellowship and its members have invested in the community for years, and we are pleased that the church will now receive fair treatment and equal access to the civic center.”

The Name Of Jesus Must Be Lifted High

0

Recently, a few (slightly) high profile Christian leaders have publicly renounced their faith (or at least expressed that they were on the verge). I know this has been discouraging to some of you, but I want to encourage you to keep some perspective.

In the era of social media, where one scandalous story can dominate headlines, one or two outspoken backsliders can seem much more significant than they actually are. Look at the picture attached. This was just a few days ago in Nakuru, Kenya.

More than a third of the population of that city is in the photograph. They are not there for a concert or a political rally. They are there listening to the preaching of the Gospel.

The name of Jesus was lifted high. Thousands were saved. Amazing miracles happened. Hundreds experienced deliverance from demons.

In the weeks leading up to the main event, our team preached the Gospel in more than 600 schools, villages, markets and orphanages. More than 200,000 people received Christ – BEFORE THE EVENT STARTED!!

In some of the schools where our team ministered, they had full-blown outpourings of the Holy Spirit. The power of God moved among students for hours, with hundreds laid out under the power of God. And still others were dramatically delivered from demons – in public schools.

This is just one recent example of one thing God did in one little city in one part of the world. All over the planet the power of God is moving. I’m hearing the reports from every corner – far too many to tell. So, don’t let the backsliding of a couple, mostly irrelevant “leaders” discourage you. God is on the move. Let’s keep pressing forward with all our might. The best is yet to come!

We Need To Value Truth Over Feeling’: Skillet’s John Cooper Reacts To Christian Leaders Renouncing Faith

0

Two high profile renouncements of faith have shaken the Christian world in recent days, with “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” author Joshua Harris taking the atheist plunge first, followed by Hillsong worship leader Marty Sampson declaring that he is “genuinely losing his faith.”

One member from the popular Christian band Skillet, John Cooper, wrote a lengthy (and scathing) post on Facebook offering some fierce pushback on some of the complaints made by the recent apostates.

I have a few specific thoughts and rebuttals to statements made by recently disavowed church influencers…first of all, I am stunned that the seemingly most important thing for these leaders who have lost their faith is to make such a bold new stance. Basically saying, “I’ve been living and preaching boldly something for 20 years and led generations of people with my teachings and now I no longer believe it..therefore I’m going to boldly and loudly tell people it was all wrong while I boldly and loudly lead people in to my next truth.” I’m perplexed why they aren’t embarrassed?

A very strong observation, as many who critique the Christian faith enjoy throwing arrows yet leave the inadequacies and folly of their own worldview conveniently unaddressed. Why should someone believe this wavering person, especially when they are entering into a worldview that has no worthy justifications to explain virtually anything we currently experience in life?

I’ll fast forward to the crown jewel of the post, in which Cooper responds brilliantly to some of the (frequently asked/answered) questions raised by the Hillsong worship leader, who claimed these were issues the church “never talks about.”

Prepare to unleash a barrage of “Amen!” shouts while reading this:

Thirdly, there is a common thread running through these leaders/influencers that basically says that “no one else is talking about the REAL stuff.” This is just flatly false. I just read today in a renown worship leader’s statement, “How could a God of love send people to hell? No one talks about it.” As if he is the first person to ask this? Brother, you are not that unique. The church has wrestled with this for 1500 years. Literally. Everybody talks about it. Children talk about it in Sunday school. There’s like a billion books written on the topic. Just because you don’t get the answer you want doesn’t mean that we are unwilling to wrestle with it. We wrestle with scripture until we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.

It is time for the church to rediscover the preeminence of the Word. And to value the teaching of the Word. We need to value truth over feeling. Truth over emotion. And what we are seeing now is the result of the church raising up influencers who did not supremely value truth who have led a generation who also do not believe in the supremacy of truth. And now those disavowed leaders are proudly still leading and influencing boldly AWAY from the truth.

Is it any wonder that some of our disavowed Christian leaders are letting go of the absolute truth of the Bible and subsequently their lives are falling apart? Further and further they are sinking in the sea all the while shouting “now I’ve found the truth! Follow me!!” Brothers and sisters in the faith all around the world, pastors, teachers, worship leaders, influencers…I implore you, please please in your search for relevancy for the gospel, let us NOT find creative ways to shape Gods word into the image of our culture by stifling inconvenient truths. But rather let us hold on even tighter to the anchor of the living Word of God. For He changes NOT. “The grass withers and the flowers fade away, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8)

Amen and amen! Beautifully said by Cooper all the way around. If you check out the full post (below) you’ll also be treated to his astute yet often looked observation that these leaders backing away from the faith say we just need to love people — yet by removing God you remove all justification and reason to even bother loving people in the first place! Everything becomes relative without Him, and Cooper does a nice job of fleshing this idea out.

Healing And Deliverance! – Nakuru, Kenya

0
As the sun was rising this morning over the Rift Valley in Nakuru, Kenya, it illuminated an amazing scene. By 6:30 AM, thousands of pastors and church leaders had already gathered on our campaign field, under the African sky, to hear the Word of God.

One local pastor said to Peter Vandenberg that he has never seen anything like it – not even in the churches – much less on an open field. There is truly a tremendous hunger here for the things of God, even among the leaders. This to me is a great sign that God is doing something powerful in Nakuru.

I am joined this week by a number of amazing men and women of God from around the world. Among them are Eddie James (Official) and his team, all the way from the USA, leading us in beautiful and powerful worship each night. Also, I have a team of evangelists – graduates from the School of Evangelism, who have been ministering here for the last seven weeks! They have conducted more than 600 outreaches – sometimes over 30 in one day! Together they saw well over 200,000 decisions for Christ before the Campaign even started!

Last night I asked one of those evangelists, Michael Job to share with the people. He is an actor at the Holy Land Experience who plays Jesus. Some local journalists had published the false report that Michael was claiming to be the real Jesus. It generated quite a bit of publicity, even making headlines on Fox News and the BBC (online). Last night Michael confirmed to the crowd, what he had already said many times – he is not Jesus. But he took the opportunity to give glory to the one and only King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The name of the real Jesus was lifted up.

I asked another one of those evangelists, Jared Horton Ministries to share for a few minutes before I preached. He told them the story of a young lady in one of the schools where they ministered. She had been given a braided piece of cloth to tie around her waist by a witch-doctor who told her that it would protect her against evil spirits.

Meanwhile, this young lady had become completely demon possessed. As our team ministered in that school, this young lady was dramatically delivered. Afterward, she voluntarily gave that cloth to Jared as a testimony to her newfound freedom.

After that testimony we burned drums full of witchcraft Juju that many people surrendered and broke the curses in Jesus’ name. One lady testified that she was healed when the curses were broken. Many other wonderful testimonies of healing followed, including deaf ears, stomach ulcers, asthma, arthritis and all kinds of pain and paralysis!

RCCG Convention 2019 Tagged “And God Said” Ends With 1,885 New Pastors & 109 Babies!

0
The RCCG Convention 2019 which is the 67th Annual convention of the church ended on Sunday 11th August 2019 with a Thanksgiving Service, during which 1,855 pastors were ordained by the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

This beats last year’s record with a margin of 252 pastors. The opening prayer of the service was said by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is also a pastor of the church.

Earlier in the week, the church had ordained 12,811 deacons, deaconesses and 4,060 assistant pastors.

Also during the convention, 109 babies were born at the church’s medical facility, where an Intensive Care Unit was commissioned; while 5,443 students graduated from the Redeemed Christian Bible College.

The convention, with the theme, “And God Said,” was attended by people from around the world, and watched on TV and the Internet by many more. The church has a physical presence in 198 countries.

The ordination of the pastors followed the same procedure of earlier ordinations of the church. RCCG National Overseer, Joshua Obayemi, presented the candidates for ordination to Pastor Adeboye, who explained that: “Ordination into the office of full pastors is a very sacred thing because that is the highest office in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Even the General Overseer is a pastor.”

“The ordination is the last opportunity the candidates have to request from God anything they see in the General Overseer, which they want.”

All 1,885 filed out to the altar area where they were anointed with oil and hands laid on them by Pastor Folu Adeboye and the Assistant General Overseers of the church, after which Pastor Adeboye proclaimed: “We are ordaining you pastors in the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the Name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

“The Almighty God himself will overshadow you, the Holy Spirit will be your strength. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound on in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven.

“Whatever you ask to come will come and whatever you ask to go will go; you will not fail, you will not fall; God will use you for His glory; He will support you, He will defend you, He will fight for you.

“And in the Kingdom of God, you will not be forgotten. So shall it be! And I decree it in the Name of Jesus. Praise the Lord! Congratulations!!“

The only Bible reading for the ceremony, Psalm 150, was done by Pastor Mrs Adeboye, clad in white as her husband, while the Assistant General Overseer of the church in charge of Administration and Personnel, Johnson Odeshola, preached the ordination sermon.

Giving an overview of the convention, Pastor Adeboye noted that it had been a remarkable success. And while thanking God for it, he praised the congregation. “Thank you all again, you are the best and I am proud to be your pastor.”

He also thanked all those who had contributed to the success of the convention.

“I want to say that the Lord has spoken and all will be well,” he prayed.

Take Your Life Out Of Neutral Pt. 2

0
“Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Romans 12:2 NLT
I like the Message translation of this verse: “Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out…God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you” (Romans 12:2 MSG).

If you want to take your life out of neutral, fix your attention on God—let Him establish your thoughts!

“Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.” Proverbs 16:3 NKJV

God will establish your thoughts; He will establish your thinking. He will give you a vision, a plan, and a strategy to accomplish what He has called you to do on a day-to-day basis.  God will download His will for you as a vision—but it is your responsibility to write that vision and make it plain so you can act on it; so you can set goals and make decisions based on that vision.

Your decisions should be dictated by a God-inspired vision.  If your life isn’t giving you the outcomes you want, ask God to align your thoughts with His purpose and give you a vision for accomplishing it.

Whatever God has called you to do; He will give you the grace to do it. “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 NKJV).

“God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” Philippians 2:13 NLT

It is according to that power working in you that you are able to do more than you think you’re capable of.

God wants to make you aware of how much power you have—“for God has not given [you] a spirit of fear, but of power!” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

And I want to make you aware of how much power you have! I guarantee you will be empowered like never before to dramatically accelerate your life! Expand your vision for what is possible for you!

“All glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20 NLT

Diligence Pays

0
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men………Proverbs 22 vs 29.
The world is packed-full of men, women, boys and girls who sincerely want to succeed, become famous or come to limelight, but at the same time, do not want to steadfastly work for it.

People want to prosper in their business, but feel reluctant in diligently working towards it.

Today’s lesson however, is a reminder that diligence pays, it brings you to limelight, before king, not before ordinary people.

Friend, do you feel you’re not progressing in your business, do you feel unrecognized by great men, Learn from today’s lessons from the proverbs; be diligent and continue diligently in what you’re doing. Convert your talent to skills, be a truly competent worker, and you will definitely see great men come to your rising because God’s word says so.

Food For Thought: Diligence – Your sure key to relevance.
