CARACAS, Venezuela — The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) has deployed members of its Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country, bringing emotional and spiritual support to survivors as communities begin the long road to recovery.
The twin earthquakes, which struck the country’s northern coastal region, caused widespread destruction, leaving thousands dead or injured and forcing many families from their homes. Rescue teams have continued searching through collapsed buildings while humanitarian agencies respond to urgent needs across the affected areas.
In response to the disaster, the BG-RRT has sent Spanish-speaking chaplains to minister to grieving families, first responders, and others affected by the tragedy. The chaplains are offering prayer, encouragement, and emotional care to people coping with loss and uncertainty.
Josh Holland, Vice President of BG-RRT Global, said the organisation’s mission is to walk alongside those who are suffering and point them to the hope found in Jesus Christ during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. The ministry has also encouraged Christians around the world to pray for those who have lost loved ones, for rescue efforts to continue successfully, and for strength for the Venezuelan people as they rebuild.
Churches and Christian organisations within Venezuela have also mobilised relief efforts, providing emergency supplies, opening their facilities to displaced families, and organising prayer gatherings to support affected communities.
As recovery operations continue, Christian ministries are emphasising both practical assistance and pastoral care, seeking to bring comfort and hope to those facing the aftermath of one of Venezuela’s most destructive natural disasters in recent history.
