Kenneth Copeland Calls Coronavirus ‘Very Weak Strain Of Flu,’ Says Healthy People Shouldn’t Fear

0

Texas-based televangelist Kenneth Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries urged people not to panic over the new coronavirus, calling it a “very weak strain of flu” that healthy people shouldn’t fear.

“It (coronavirus) is so weak their symptoms are almost alike,” Copeland said Wednesday in a Facebook Live broadcast of his Victory News report. “Some people had it and didn’t even know it. They just haven’t found the way to knock that thing in the head yet.”

Copeland’s broadcast began with a highlight of a different strain of the coronavirus listed on the label of a bottle of Clorox to demonstrate that other strains of the virus have been around for a while.

He also pointed to a recent announcement  from scientists at Israel’s The Galilee Research Institute that they are on the cusp of developing a vaccine for the new coronavirus in the next few weeks.

“Our basic concept was to develop the technology and not specifically a vaccine for this kind or that kind of virus,” Dr. Chen Katz, MIGAL’s biotechnology group leader told the Jerusalem Post Wednesday. “The scientific framework for the vaccine is based on a new protein expression vector, which forms and secretes a chimeric soluble protein that delivers the viral antigen into mucosal tissues by self-activated endocytosis, causing the body to form antibodies against the virus.”

He added: “We are in the middle of this process, and hopefully in a few weeks we will have the vaccine in our hands. Yes, in a few weeks, if it all works, we would have a vaccine to prevent coronavirus.”

Copeland then said that much of the reaction to the new coronavirus has been fear-based and pointed to 2 Timothy 1:7 to show why God would prefer for Christians to have faith that they will overcome the virus even if they are infected.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind,” he said. “So fear is a spirit and that spirit is the devil and he is the spirit of death.”

Copeland then explained that having fear is to actively put faith in the power of the devil.

“So fear is faith in him (devil). It’s a spiritual force. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Fear comes by hearing and a hearing by the word of the devil. The lies of Satan. All worry is fear-based. All anxiety is fear-based. All depression is fear-based. Amen. So fear of this virus, forget about corona. It’s another form of the flu,” he said.

Copeland, who was born in 1936 and celebrated his 83rd birthday last December, said he has been around a long time and has seen several different strains of the flu, including the Hong Kong flu pandemic which occurred in 1968. Copeland recalled an outbreak he experienced around 1957 and 1958 which was during the time of the Asian Flu virus.

The Asian Flu virus was first reported in Singapore in February 1957, Hong Kong in April 1957, and in coastal cities in the United States in summer 1957. The estimated number of deaths was 1.1 million worldwide and 116,000 in the United States, the CDC said.

In contrast, officials at the CDC and epidemic experts from universities around the world estimate that if the new coronavirus gains a foothold in the U.S., between 160 million and 214 million people in the U.S. could be infected, The New York Times reported. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.

As of Friday afternoon, at least 1,714 people in 47 states and Washington, D.C., have tested positive for coronavirus, according to a New York Times database, and at least 41 patients with the virus have died.

Why God Does Not Heal Everyone Pt. 1

0

1. God does not heal everyone because some people believe when they see miracles.

Then many (not all) of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. John 11:45

2.  God does not heal everyone because only a few people believe in God when they see miracles.

But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: John 12:37

It would be nice if there were many more miracles but the fact is that miracles are only going to add a few more people to the faith.  Some people do not believe no matter what they see.  You can raise the dead in front of them and they will still not believe.

Abraham told the rich man:  “…If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead” (Luke 16:31).

In fact, some people will hate you because of the miracles they see.

Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.  Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.  And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?  His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:   But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.  Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.  Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. John 9:15-25

The miracle Jesus did brought about a surprising division.  You would have thought that the healing of a man born blind would make everybody believe.

If God was trying to make everybody believe by miracles then He failed.  No matter what God does, certain people will never believe.  God is therefore not in a hurry to heal everyone.

I know a man of God who had a halo appear over his head when he was preaching.  Do you think that everybody believed in his ministry?  Certainly not!  We must understand then that miracles or no miracles, the work of God still goes on.  Only some people will believe because of the miracles.

This explains why one of the greatest evangelists of our time, Billy Graham, could preach the gospel without praying for miracles.  People are saved by the foolishness of preaching and not by the power of miracles.

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21

The Sweet Influences Of The Holy Spirit To Assure You

0

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the EARNEST OF THE SPIRIT in our hearts. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

1. God assures you of His approval by the Holy Spirit’s presence.

The Holy Spirit’s presence in your life is a guarantee and a further assurance of His approval on your life. Read it for yourself: The presence of the Holy Spirit is the guarantee, the seal, the pledge and the assurance that you need. God has left the Holy Spirit in our midst so that He is present in all that we do. His presence is supposed to assure us and calm us down. His presence is supposed to be a guarantee that assures us in what we do. “Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the EARNEST OF THE SPIRIT” (2 Corinthians 5:5).

Are you approved? Does God like you? Is God happy with you? Is He happy with your songs? Does God agree with all that you are doing? You need some assurance, don’t you? That assurance comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit. The influence of the Holy Spirit will calm and reassure you when you are uncertain about whether you are walking in His will.

Why does your financial prosperity give you assurance? Where did you read that? Where do you learn these things? Are you now being tutored by the world’s system? How come you are looking at your financial status, your new job, your car and your house to give you an assurance that God is with you? When did these things become your guarantee? The Holy Spirit is the guarantee and not any earthly possession.

It is because you are a carnal man operating under an earthly influence that earthly things are assuring you of God’s love for you. It is secular businessmen who are assured and encouraged by their bank balances and financial incomes. You, as a spiritual person, must be assured by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Your convictions must be strengthened by the presence of God. The presence of the Holy Spirit must be your source of assurance. This is one of the most important functions of the Holy Spirit: to assure you.

Over and over, the Holy Sprit is called an earnest pledge or a guarantee. He guarantees that you are on the right way by His presence. You must always look for the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Moses would not go one step forward without the guarantee of the presence of the Lord. You must become like Moses who looked for guarantees and assurances in the presence of the Lord.

Then he said to Him, “If Thy presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.

For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Thy sight, I and Thy people? Is it not by Thy going with us, so that we, I and Thy people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?”

Exodus 33:15-16 (NASB)

2. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit you develop convictions and assurances.

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Galatians 4:6

The Holy Spirit influences your convictions by crying out about certain things in your heart.

Anyone who is under the sweet influence of the Holy Spirit will become sure of certain realities because the Holy Spirit will cry and repeatedly speak certain words in your heart. These words that the Holy Spirit speaks in your heart will become convictions that you hold onto. You will be sure of these things without having reasons why.

Are you beginning to form certain convictions in your heart? Are you becoming sure about certain things?

Is there a mysterious knowing in your heart? Is your soul mystically longing for certain things? Are certain spiritual desires growing and developing in you? Is your heart crying for certain things? These are all mystical works of the Holy Spirit.

Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church Cancels All Worship Services Due To Coronavirus

0

Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church announced Thursday that all worship services are being canceled to help contain the coronavirus.

After Houston, Texas, Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a health emergency on Wednesday for the city of Houston and Harris County following the area’s first possible non-travel related coronavirus case, the church decided to take safety precautions to help decrease the virus’ spread to non-infected people.

In an email alert to members, Lakewood Church said: “In consideration of today’s public health emergency declaration on COVID-19 by Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner, along with the fact that Lakewood draws such large numbers of international visitors each week, Lakewood’s leadership has decided not to hold public services this weekend,” Lakewood announced in its statement.

“While we apologize for any inconvenience this causes to our members and visitors, we feel that this move is necessary to ensure the well-being of all of the citizens of this great city, especially the most vulnerable among us,” the church added.

Although all Saturday and Sunday services are being canceled, Lakewood Church said it “will broadcast its services online.”

The church said staff will be monitoring the situation “week by week” and will update members on their plans as they follow guidelines set by local officials.

“[We] hope to resume the assembly in the very near future,” the letter concluded.

Osteen’s sermons will be broadcast on Facebook, YouTube, Roku, AppleTV and online at JoelOsteen.com.

Christian Apologist Ravi Zacharias Reveals He Has Bone Cancer

0

Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Zacharias said doctors discovered a cancerous tumor of the sacrum, a cancer called sarcoma. The cancer diagnosis comes just three weeks after he underwent back surgery, after which he was in pain so severe that he could not sleep. The pain, however, was not a result of the surgery but the tumor, he learned.

The sacrum is a shield-shaped bony structure located at the base of the lumbar vertebrae and is connected to the pelvis.

“In the past few days, we have been meeting with specialists to determine the next course of action. They will wait until I am fully healed from the back surgery, and in 4-5 weeks, will begin treatment to shrink the tumor. I will not plan to resume speaking at least until the summer,” he wrote.

“We are trusting the Lord in this, and we believe we have already seen evidence of His hand. For example, the tumor did not show up on any previous scans and was only discovered by my surgeon identifying it during surgery,” Zacharias continued.

“We received literally thousands of messages from people all over the world saying you were praying. I have every belief God directed and prompted my surgeon to his discovery of this tumor. Margie and I and our family are so grateful for your continued prayers for the journey that lies ahead.

“We are trusting the Lord for His purpose. Please do also pray that God will take away this horrific night pain, which is the most difficult part of waiting.”

Team members of Zacharias’ ministry are stepping in to fill in while he recovers.

Known for his robust defenses of Christianity, Zacharias, 73, is regarded as among the most esteemed apologists for the faith today.

Empowered21 Shifts Online After Israel Imposes Ban On International Conferences

0

The Global Congress of Empowered21, a worldwide gathering of Pentecostal Christians, will now take place as an online event after the Israeli government imposed a complete ban on foreign travelers due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

Empowered21 announced in a release Thursday that instead of the in-person event scheduled for the week of Pentecost 2020 in Jerusalem, Israel, they will be shifting to an online event that will stream from the campus of Oral Roberts University from May 31 to June 2.

The announcement came on the heels of a decision by Israeli authorities to shut their borders to all foreigners this week to clamp down on the spread of the new coronavirus which has infected at least 109 people in that country as of Thursday.

Israel is also limiting public events in enclosed areas to 100 people as part of their efforts to contain the new coronavirus.

“We find comfort in knowing that God is not surprised by this turn of events,” Billy Wilson, president of ORU and global co-chair for Empowered21, said in a statement Thursday. “We hold fast to our mission to see every individual on earth have an authentic encounter with Jesus through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit by Pentecost 2033. We believe that this adjustment to an online event will actually help us accelerate the mission that God has given us.”

The online event hosted by ORU is expected to begin with a live Pentecost Sunday celebration with special guests and worship teams.

“We ask that everyone would join us in praying against the spread of coronavirus, healing for all those affected and that many lives will be touched with the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit through our upcoming online global congress,” Wilson added. “In Matthew 24, Jesus tells us that there would be upheaval, including global disease, but that ‘this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations.’ This unique historical moment requires a new way for a new day.”

Dr. George O. Wood, chief executive officer of the Assemblies of God Church and global co-chair of the Empowered21 Spirit-empowered movement (l) and co-chair William Wilson, president of Oral Roberts University (r) lead a prayer session on the Empowered21 Global Congress in Jerusalem, Israel on Wednesday night

This is the second Global Congress of Empowered21, and is expected to focus on the next generation.

The next generation focus comes after concern was raised at the first global gathering which took place during the week of Pentecost in Jerusalem in 2015, that a generation was being lost.

Jentezen Franklin, senior pastor of the multi-campus Free Chapel Church, had urged thousands of Spirit-filled believers at that gathering to start preaching “the truth about being filled with the Holy Spirit” and speaking in tongues to their families or risk losing a generation.

“It is a slow process to the death of the language. The unity on the language, it’s a soul thing. The less it’s taught in the home, the less the children of the next generation will get it. I want to say to all of you who are parents here today, what language are you teaching your children? When you go home from church, what language do they hear?” asked Franklin at the time.

“If ever there was a time that we must engage ourselves in the active discipleship of our families, it’s in this time. If Deuteronomy 6 ever had meaning to any generation, it is to this generation where it says that you shall diligently teach these things to your children. When they rise up, when they go to bed, when they walk, when they go to school, talk the faith, talk the Word. Let them hear the language even in the home, let them hear the language of the Holy Spirit. Let them hear, Mama,” Franklin urged.

The Shift (You Are Not Your Past)

0

“Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?
So they were offended at Him.” – Matthew 13:55 & 57a

Jesus had just preached a powerful message in his hometown Nazareth and the people were astonished. The wisdom, in-depth understanding and revelation on display did not match the story of his past.

The questions asked in the scripture above suggests the people were very familiar with him. He was from a poor family and raised in a poor town. There were no examples of greatness he could look up to; and yet his wisdom and miracles spread his fame afar. There had been a shift over his life.

When the shift occurs, your background becomes irrelevant. When God’s divine hand is involved, your past is not a determinant of your future.

There may be people who constantly use your past as a whip but hear Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

I want to remind you today, you are not your past! You may be the carpenter’s son but that is not the end of your story. You may be in Nazareth now but that is not your final destination.

Pray this:
Father Lord I thank you for all you have done in my life thus far. I pray that there shall be a shift over my atmosphere that will propel me to the next level. Bring me a change, so that my past becomes a testimony and the victory from my failings become a source of encouragement for those around me. I thank you in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Some Churches Refuse To Close In Wake Of Coronavirus Despite Warnings From Governor

0

Some churches including Southern Baptist congregations in Kentucky say they have no plans to shutter amid the new coronavirus epidemic despite a request from Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear urging houses of worship to close temporarily Wednesday to help prevent community spread of the deadly virus.

“We know this is community spread and we need to get ahead of it,” Beshear said in a statement on the virus. “It is important for everybody out there to be calm, practice good hygiene and reduce the risk of exposure for themselves and others.”

Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Director-Treasurer Todd Gray told Baptist Press that despite the governor’s request, many of their churches plan on staying open while taking steps to limit community spread of the virus.

“It appears that most Kentucky Baptist church leaders are planning to carry on with their regularly scheduled services unless things change between now and Sunday,” Gray said. “Several Kentucky Baptist pastors will urge additional precautions by asking those who are sick to please stay home and those who are concerned to feel free to also stay home.”

On Thursday, WLOU radio station callers 60 years old and older told WAVE 3 News and St. Stephen Baptist Church media coordinator Krystal Goodner that they planned on attending church this weekend because they are covered by their faith.

“We will be there praising the Lord like we should be,” one caller said.

Goodner noted that when it comes with people and their faith in Kentucky, “you do not mess with church!”

She said St. Stephen Church will be enforcing CDC guidelines and encouraging members to wash their hands, but it doesn’t appear they will shutter like some churches that will grant the governor’s request to close temporarily.

The Rev. Steve Willis, senior pastor at First Baptist Church Ashland, told WCHS that while the Bible tells Christians to obey secular governments, his church will have to weigh the governor’s request appropriately. For now, however, his church plans on staying open with precautions.

Mike Pence Mocked For Praying With Coronavirus Task Force At White House

0

Vice President Mike Pence received a new round of criticism this week from some on the political left after the White House released a picture of the vice president praying with the coronavirus task force in his West Wing office.

The White House Flickr account posted a photo taken on Feb. 26 showing Pence praying with members of the White House Coronavirus Taskforce in his White House office. The photo shows Pence in a circle with others bowing their heads in prayer.

The gathering occurred as Pence was assigned by President Trump to spearhead the U.S. federal government’s response to the global outbreak of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

As of Wednesday, coronavirus has claimed the lives of at least nine Americans and there are at least 100 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. Additionally, experts have warned that the coronavirus outbreak could potentially be described as a “pandemic.”

After the taskforce prayer photo began circulating on social media, it didn’t take long for some on the political left to mock the prayer or take offense to it.

Hemant Mehta, who writes for Patheos.com’s “Friendly Atheist” blog, wrote that “it’s not a joke when people say these Republicans are trying to stop a virus with prayer.”

“What else did anyone expect?” Mehta asked. “Science? Reason? Something sensible? Of course not. If this virus truly becomes a pandemic, we’re at the mercy of people delusional enough to think their pleas to God will fix the problem. The same God who presumably created the virus, at least in their minds, will somehow make sure it hurts only a handful of Americans … and a ton of Chinese people.”

Dr. Angela Rassmussen, a virologist at Columbia University, also criticized the prayer.

“I have yet to attend a scientific meeting that begins in prayer,” she wrote.

Thomas Chatterton Williams, a contributing writer with the New York Times Magazine, shared the photo on Twitter and commented that “we are so screwed.”

“They’re treating this disease with the seriousness and urgency they bring to gun violence,” Williams wrote in a tweet. “While some are taking solace in the thought that this administration — which disbanded the CDC pandemic team in 2018 — performatively prays for the camera, this is a chilling window into their actual epidemiological unpreparedness and incompetence.”

The Associated Press reported last week that claims the CDC was ill prepared is not accurate. “For starters, Trump hasn’t succeeded in cutting the budget. The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aren’t suffering from budget cuts that never took effect.”

Williams’ response drew the ire of some Christians, including Tennessee pastor Steve Gaines, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

“The wisdom they will tap into is far greater than anything man can comprehend,” Gaines wrote in a tweet of his own. “May God raise up more politicians who, like @Mike_Pence, will admit their limitations, humble themselves, and cry out to God in prayer for help.”
